Morimoto 2 Stroke LED vs stock

It's a lot more nicer/noticible difference in real life. My buddy on the right is going to get the Morimoto 2 Stroke LED now.

They look great, I'll grant you that. I'm happy with them; however, the journey to get here wasn't easy. To start, @TRSAndrew completely ignored me in other threads when I asked about pricing. To date, I have never heard from him. Guess he's too busy to respond to us mortals. Good thing I found an Xmas discount code on their website on my own (no thanks to Andrew), or I'd be hunting elsewhere, but $102 for the set after discount was too good to pass up.

The second hitch was when I received an incorrect adapter kit that plugs in to the factory headlight plug:
Wiring Harness Fail A.jpg Wiring Harness Fail B.jpg

See the top plug? It's the adapter kit plug and is spaced too wide as opposed to the much narrower factory one. Complete fail. I did contact TRS tech support via email who promptly sent me a replacement plug. TRS tech support (unlike Andrew) was very prompt and efficient and deserve much credit. The replacement harness appeared to be much better:
    Wiring Harness Fail C.jpg

However, again there was a glitch. The Morimoto adapter plug doesn't securely snap in to the factory headlight plug. You can push it in and hear a click, but if you give the plugs a quick pull apart to separate them (without unsnapping them) your headlight will go out. I can imagine that road vibrations will eventually loosen the plug and cause flickering or the headlight to just quit when the contacts separate. I have seen in other threads of users complaining of Morimoto headlights going out randomly; I wonder if this was the cause. I ended up wrapping up the connectors in electrical tape to keep them secure:
    Wiring Harness Fail D.jpg

I shouldn't have to wrap connectors in tape - they should snap in securely. This is a ghetto repair - I wonder why the connectors weren't designed properly?

Once my lights were in and running, a new issue I noticed was the excessive heat generated by the voltage regulator boxes:
    Wiring Harness Fail E.jpg

When running for a period of time, the metal surface heats up to around 116 to 118 degrees. To be fair, this is while my truck was stationary, when I retested them after driving around my thermometer reported a more normal 88 degrees. I assume the airflow kept the boxes cool; however, I wonder how long these regulator boxes will last if they heat up as much as they do. Also, what will they do when it's over 100 degrees here in CA during the summer? I think the longevity of these LED bulb kits are suspect. Also, the boxes are not designed with "ears" for you to bolt them to a metal surface to act as a heatsink. I was forced to zip tie them away from other wires or plastic surfaces since I'm afraid of them getting damaged by the overly hot metal regulator boxes.

In conclusion, I do love LED bulbs and despise HIDs for their needless complexity and propensity to burn housings, I just think these 2 strokes were probably not as thought out as they could have been, and the QC on the wiring parts leaves a lot to be desired. I'll keep them as long as they last; hopefully by then technology will have evolved again so that the next generation of LED bulbs will be much better. Time will tell!

In the meantime, (as much as I hate to do this) I can't recommend these bulbs at this time.

    all tore up already
Im using piaa #17202 led bulbs right now. They are not the greatest light but work for now and are substantially brighter than the opt7 i first tried. Those were borderline dangerous.

A company with good support is becoming more and more important these days. I just ran into an unrelated issue with tackle warehouse on a fishing rod. Still angered and that was 6 months ago. lol

Cool. That 20% off makes it really tempting to spend $200 bucks today haha.

I hate how our trucks have the LED drls, LED bed light, and then yellow ass fogs / lows.

It's annoying.. i'm always checking the headlight stalk to make sure I didn't turn it off.

haven't received tracking number yet. Would be nice if it showed up Saturday.

    details on tint?

tinted mine as well, but I did it strictly for heat redution. I have the Llumar Air 80. Allows for 79% transparency and 42% head rejection.

I've only had a couple of days where the temp was above 74* and I was very happy with it. The couple of days I ran the AC I kept it low. So i'm looking forward to summer days.

Wrapped the truck in 5% (including 5% on whatever the back was stock) and 27% on the windshield.

3rd truck with this exact setup, hands down the best upgrade you can do.

whoa.. i wish you luck with the lights.

they will be brighter, but the throw will be about the same as the stock bulbs.

Has anyone run the 2stroke Morimoto LED's as their High Beams. I believe they should fit, H11/H9 socket are the same, and should be fine for flashing people as well as continuous use, but would love to hear from someone who has done this.

Technically speaking you shouldn't run LED or HID in anything but a projector lense. Since the high beam is a reflector you will be blinding people pretty frequently haha.
