I added LEDs to my 2019 using Dave’s harness. Easy install and no regrets. I like the improved output over halogens.

edit to add: I installed the OEM halogens, not aftermarket.

You started two threads? One to discuss led or halogen, and one to help you decide red or white?

I’m beginning to think it’s Friday.

Good point, thanks. Not a ton of night driving - though I’m very safety-oriented, so of course I appreciate better lighting when I am driving at night.

Good to know, thanks. With the crazy supply chain issues and shortages, it feels like insisting on the pre-installed LED headlights is really limiting my options. Nice to know I have the ability to decide to do it later, even if the cost is higher.

Haha - at least I didn’t also start a thread about the internal debate I’m having about how critical the tech package/BSM is to me. Although maybe now that it’s Saturday...

The factory LED’s are phenomenal. Its nice to finally have a truck where I dont have to mess with Amazon led bulbs . Either way, It’s definitely worth the money. They literally are every bit as good as the factory lighting in my E Class. I have never tried the $1.3k Morimoto leds, but now I don’t have to .

Agreed, I did the same with a well known brand. The performance of the LED bulb vs the oem halogen is by a lot. Those projector headlight are fine with LED bulb.

unless you like the look, go for it. I don’t care much about the look especially with that kind of price.

I've found that personally, headlights are one of the things I notice, and it pays to go with the better option up front.
Taco owners are just lucky that the newer OEM LEDs will physically fit the older 3rd gen trucks. I'm surprised they didn't tweak the bodywork slightly to screw us over.

At < $500, the OEM LED headlights (code LG) are the single best and most cost-effective option available for the Tacoma. I sought them in my purchase. No one who orders them regrets it. They are excellent. Also the OEMs are covered by the Toyota warranty. After markets aren’t. Heaven forbid you have an electrical problem after changing OEM lights, even if that problem is totally non-related.
I guess you know my answer!

Got spec d black projector lights and black winjets for taillights for $355. It’s in mail, hoping they legit and not some scam. But I do have buyer protection; never been forced to use before, so I’m hoping all is good. I’ll post my LED lights at end of next week.

My allocation does not have the LED headlights I wanted, but I took it without a second thought. Big thing for me was getting a manual TRD Sport as stripped of electronic bullshit as possible and I got that. I may or may not add factory LED's later on and get the custom wiring harness from the forum guy who makes them. I will decide that once I get it.

The money I'm not spending on widgets I didn't want is going into TRD lift, TRD exhaust, bed mat and 265/70r17 all terrain tires.

Thankfully @Puppypunter makes these harnesses for SR5 in batches though. But from my understanding, they require resistors and some complicated wiring because the DRL signal is tied to the turn signal.

A dealership will not install oem leds on a Tacoma with a halogen assembly/wiring. The only way you can put oem leds on a non-native led tacoma is with a custom built harness (talk to @daveeasa) and self install (or pay a shop/friend).

Thanks for all the info. Super helpful and appreciated. I’ve got a deposit on an OR that’s stuck in limbo at port with no answers or ETA, and it doesn’t have LED headlights. But I just put a second hold on another OR that does have them.

Now we’ll see which gets here first. Would love to have the LEDs, but given the chaos of the current shortages and delays, I’m just going to be happy when an OR finally arrives with my name on it.

@RNILT if you decide to go aftermarket, watch this new video that tacomabeast just released. It’s got some great info about how to install, different features on several models, and specs on light output.

    Yes… let’s drop 1k+ on new headlights
Yikes. These lights look good but are very pricey.
Ya, I’m waiting for the adapter from the guy in this group for my sr. Wish I was more knowledgeable in these areas but I’m learning now thanks to this group.

The $400 was a pretty darn good option. No need to spend $1400
