Toyota's OEM LEDs are vastly superior to Morimoto.

    Definitely not.

The GTRs scatter light like crazy too. They are one of the worst LEDs reviewed in the headlight thread and in no way remotely replicate a halogen. They are that terrible. The only reason you had a clean cut off line is because you ran them in a projector. You can put any light source in a projector and it will have a clean cut off line, because it is the projector that creates that, not the light source.

I was agreeing with you lol. Like I said I learned my lesson with aftermarket LEDs. People hated my old truck and I don't blame them.

Gulf States is just as bad as SET. It's like the mafia. The head of the family gives out territories to move the product and everybody gets their taste.

EDIT: Side note for anyone interested in the history of Toyota and distributorships, here is an older but very interesting piece: https://tundraheadquarters.com/toyotas-distributors/

The factory LED lights are worth every penny, way better than any factory headlight ive ever owned.
But...trucks on the lot with the led package are pretty rare.
Get whatever truck you want without worrying about if it has LED or not, the buy the LED headlights after and upgrade to them.

I drove to alaska in February and didnt notice any icing on the LED headlights but ymmv

Close. If I could compare them side by side before I plunged and bought OEM LEDs I'd probably wouldn't do it, but that's me. Try them, you can always return them, IMO.

PnP Hikari vs OEM LED. Like I said, not even close.

    IMG_2347.jpg

The Hikari has crap blue color temp at near 7000k. The Hikaris numbers are actually inflated in this measurement because the 18' distance is inadequate for a pnp LED to integrate in a halogen housing, meaning the OEM LEDs will actually be substantially better than shown here by comparison. The OEM LED is significantly higher output intensity, wider beam pattern, better hot spot, better uplight and superior in every single measurable metric. The Hikaris are Chinese toys, while the OEM Toyota assemblies are some of the best lighting assemblies on the market.

Why won't they fit a SR5? What else is needed?

They will fit an SR5. You just need the custom harness provided by @Puppypunter. As far as I know, he's the only one to provide a harness capable of running the OEM LEDs on an SR5.

I never said that Hikari are better than OEM LEDs. Based on my observation Hikari were night and day compared to OEM halogens but not that much different than OEM LEDs. I mean yes, OEM LEDs are better lights no questions, just not "Wow what a difference!" better over Hikari. Again, just my real life observations.

The biggest issue with getting them on an SR/SR5/Trail Edition is the fact that those trims have a combined DRL/Turn Signal. So those have to be separated for the OEM LED to work. Since those signals come through the same wire, it isn’t as easy as just changing plugs. But it is possible, just no one else doing it besides me I guess.

Are the Hikari Ultras? I ran those for almost four years, and I they were decent. I have since swapped to the OEM LEDs though, but don’t have any frame of reference except the fence at the end of my driveway. That is why I am asking, the color temp doesn’t seem that far off? Maybe the yellow of the cedar fence isn’t the best test though :rofl:I can’t wait to be able to drive again (shoulder surgery recovery is taking way longer than I thought) to see how the LEDs do on the road. Even if they didn’t perform way better, they look cool on the truck

Gotcha ok. You still selling the wiring harnesses? If so how much are they?

I can't even say when the last time I drove my truck in the dark and if I do it's normally in our 99 4Runner or my wife's new 4Runner. For me I have been using the DD SL1s and have been great for the past 34 years, no need for the OEM LEDs, like I said I don't drive it at night but may switch up soon.

I am. I do small batches every month or month and a half. They are $200 (like I said, they are a bit more complex and have a few more parts).

Never want to drive without my OEM LED headlights again! The high beam is not an extrapolation of the head lights but also good. The fogs are ok.
You really want to get your vehicle somewhere else with the OEM LED headlights. I did, not even knowing how awesome they are.

Just picked up my truck yesterday... In regards to the LED headlights,,,, WOW! That was worth a flight from Tampa to New Orleans and the 8 hour drive back alone! Thanks for the advise!
