Good point. I'll be doing this mod once my light comes in. Can't wait.

i'd kill to have this in my 2012's... can someone measure the face of their light for me? Need to see if it will physically fit in the opening of the scoop and if it does i'll cross the mounted bridge when i come to it.

i doubt it will fit.. but it's worth some measuring to be sure.

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this, but first...
Any ideas about the driving light vs the spot/flood combo? The combo is nearly $80 less but is the driving light really worth that extra $? As it is I have no offroad aux lights, but I have an upcoming 3 day overnight trip in moab, and I'm hoping one of these will serve well enough for all off-roading purposes. If the driving light is really the way to go then i'll get that, as I have no desire to roll off a cliff in the middle of the night.
I've compared the patterns on RI.com but i'm also wondering if the light will be restricted on the sides by being recessed inside the hood scoop (meaning the nearly double-width of the driving light-spread would useless)?
Finally I think i may install it first (if and when i actually do this) with the mesh guard still intact... I'm wondering if you think the "hidden behind the mesh" look will be worth slight loss in illumination.
Anyway that's it for my first post, y'all seem like some bright people so I'm happy to be here

I put the spot/flood combo in my scoop and I think the savings was worth it. I also kept the mesh installed. I don't think you really lose any lamination from the mesh. That being said, I also have a 20" bar installed behind my lower grill opening. To be honest, that is way more useful, especially for the type of stuff you are talking about. My scoop light isn't restricted by the scoop, but the beam doesn't go any wider than the normal headlights. It kinda just brightens and fills the space between the headlights. Hope that helps a little. I can snap some pics if that would be helpful to ya.

Thanks for the info! I like the idea that if I were to upgrade from the 10" later on to where it was no longer the major source of light, it would be hidden away pretty well. I would appreciate a couple pictures if you don't mind. I'll start looking into larger light bars as well. Good thing March is the month of three paychecks!

I think this looks awesome and then you put up the video which makes it even better! Good job OP. Makes me want a hood scoop now.

I was skeptical on how much light it would put out and how much would actually reach the ground. The video was very impressive.
Unfortunately no skewp on my truck, but a pelfreybilt front bumper with LED bar sounds even better now :D

Not nearly as good as the video, but might help for comparison between the rigid driving (video) and the flood/spot combo (below). Obviously it's my garage door, so doesn't help with distance. My advice is that if you are only going to have the scoop light, go with the driving for the extra money. I'm happy with my flood spot combo because I have a 20" behind my lower grill that provides a wider beam. If you look at the spec sheets on rigids website, you will see the driving spreads 60m each side and the flood/spot spreads 30m.

Nice install. With my HIDmasters and one of these I will have more then ample light.

Great writeup...I love the idea of an LED lightbar but not the way that they look at all. This mod is perfect; takes a strictly cosmetic part of the truck and makes it pretty damn useful...

I think this might finally be the way to make the slow drivers doing 50 mph in the left lane get out of my way on the highway :D Its right at rearview mirror level...

Old thread but does anyone know if a 10" led bar is the max length you can put in the skewp? Or can you put a longer one in there? Also, the height, did y'all have to modify it at all? Or did it just mount right up? Thanks for any input!

Fits perfectly with the older style scoop. (will NOT fit with the newer scoops 2012+)
The only modification required is to the metal screen and the plastic insert behind the screen. Otherwise it fits like a glove. I did put a layer of canopy foam around the light just to avoid metal on metal rubbing from vibration. Had mine installed for a few years now and still love it.

Awesome! And only a 10" works correct? Has anyone ever had the light bar get to hot and melt the hood?
