I had to use the hook pick tool to get the map light out as duck tape didnt work for me. I will try to take a pic of the license light access space that i found has the most room to maneuver.

well I did some research for the OP lights on vled and this is what I found. the only one I am suspect on is the license plate light being canbus. I will subsistute a regular 194 led for that instead of the OP canbus version.

just be mindful that th vleds are 5k temp and put out a lot more lumens that the superbrights

    also on the dome light is it a 3175 (31mm) or a 3022 (29mm). I am guessing its a 3175 based on previous Toyota's using a 3175 for the dome light (14 4runner, 14 Rav4).

    part breakout ordering :

    Dome : 3175 x 1
    Map : 194 x 2
    License : 194 x 2
    Vanity : x 4

Man, I really screwed the pooch on this one. I was attempting to change out my map lights and could not get the bulbs out no matter what method I tried. Finally, the bulb broke and I thought I'd just grab the base with some needle nose pliers and pop the new LED in. Nope. the little black socket has somehow disappeared. It looks like it locks onto a green circuit board in the overhead console. I'm not sure if the socket popped out into the cabin somewhere (haven't found it yet), or if it fell into the overhead console space. Anybody know how remove the overhead unit? Otherwise, I guess it's a trip to the dealer to get the socket fixed (if they even have the part).

And BTW, the vanity mirror LEDs seem to be polarity sensitive.

yeah I tried last night and it didn't even budge. if you take a flashlight to the socket, you can see a small black piece that looks like bulb retention socket. as was previously mentioned, it may be a push/twist socket.

installed he map lights and the main dome light today and it was super easy using a small flat head screwdriver.

the only challenge was taking the map bulbs out, but scotch tape solved that. just taped them up and wiggled them free.

i did make sure they were cool and not warm (turned lights off for a few minutes before putting the tape on them).

    lights look great, thanks!

its not really a push/twist from what I saw. after applying the tape i just wiggled repeatedly left/right (NOT twisting, just lateral movement) and they came free after 5-10sec

Just wanted to chime in and say Thanks for the excellent detailed post - my lights finally arrived today.

I will install them this weekend after I "reread" everyone's posts to make sure I can remove and install them in ONE PIECE.

I have uploaded a pic to show what I received total with shipping $41.85

    Let the fun begin!

thanks for the info. just need to set aside some time to actually order a new dome light and some vanity lights from vled. too busy getting stuff in order with the new truck and closing out some paperwork from the old truck.

the old dealership owes me like $1400 from the refund on gap/ext warranty on the old taco which will be taken care of on Saturday.

Can you all describe exactly how you remove the original bulbs (tape etc.)? I have wiggled them back and forth + tried pulling but to no avail. Aside from some needle nose pliers (aka busting the bulb), can't see how to get them out. Thanks in advance.

I just let them cool down (dont have the lights on for 5-10min), then wrap some scotch tape around the bulb and press the tape down to make sure its on tight. Then I slowly wiggled and pulled it out. A few times the tape came off and I just put a new piece on and repeated.

    just to add my info.

interior light, turn off the map lights, this will ensure the dome light wont come on in addition to the map lights

also test each light after you put it in and before you put the covers back on.

if you have cheap led lights they may be polarity specific. vleds 194 leds are dual polarity usually.

    vanity lights :
    1. to pop off the covers, pry at the pointy end (bottom of the cover) and it should pop out. be careful as the top part (wide end) has a C channel to lock it into place

    map lights :
    1. pry at both outer edges gently by the corners (sides closer to each respective door) and they should lightly snap off the pegs, then pry at the center on the side closer to the center (be careful as it hangs up if your not careful) since this is the peg that pushes the switch
    2. as noted before get a 45 degree pick/pry tool that has a thin shaft.
    3. put the pointy end at the base of the bulb and gingerly work it out (comes out pretty dam easy)
    4. since it will pop out, be careful and catch it, otherwise you will have to fish for it underneath the seat (I be dam if it didn't fall into the space between the seat and center console both times)

    dome light :
    1. if you look up, the side closer to the rear window has to divots to stick a pry tool to pop that side out
    2. once both sides are popped out it will release very easy
    3. push on the driver side retention spring and the light will fall out
    4. make sure you get a 3175 or 3022 bulb that is no more than 30mm long, better if you can get a 29mm bulb

    license plate :
    1. lay on your back
    2. as your facing the socket you can reach up and turn it counter clock for 1/4 turn at most (may have to push and turn)
    3. if you cant reach it from the bottom, reach from the side thru the metal work to turn it (driver side has more wire looms so its a tighter fit, they easily move out of the way if your gentle)
    4. putting it back is the hard part as you cant get any leverage, try using a long nose plier short length (to get into the spot) to turn it back, otherwise just keep at it and be gentle but somewhat forceful, also you may have to put it in and turn

    good luck.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the overhead console? I think my map light socket is floating around in there somewhere.

Got them all changed out tonight, absolutely superior lighting with the LED's. The map lights were a bit stubborn at first, but using the tape method worked easily, I used a thin strip of duct tape to grab onto the bulbs and just pulled straight out, no problems.

I got most of these installed. FYI: for the map lights it's much easier to pull the over head console out. It just pops out. Then the sockets twist out.

Anyone know which bulb would be best for reverse lights?
