LOL...yeah, I have a 10" spot dual row led bar for reverse and a 20" spot dual row for driving light. Typically, it would cost $725, but I'm giving them at cost just to move them...$600.

There are two different types of R&D: "research & development" and "ripoff & duplicate". Both types are reflected in a product's cost, it's not just the production costs. It takes time for a new product to recover those costs, gain competition, etc (leading to reduced pricing). The KC's are interesting because they are in-line with what I have seen for the "next generation" of LED lighting, but I understand people not being able to afford them--I can't.

I've done a lot of research on automotive lighting, and generally the higher-priced stuff is "special"--backed by lots and lots of money for the first type of R&D, and it makes a difference. You usually get what you pay for. Hella 500's don't compare to Rallye 4000's, for example. PNP HID kits don't compare to proper OEM projector-based systems.

I'm sure these lights you're selling put out a *ton* of light forward, and will be great for off-roading at lower speeds like I said. I am sure most people buying them will be very happy with them. However, if Rigid went to the trouble to patent their reflector design, they probably put plenty of effort into the first type of R&D and it may very well be a superior design. It might not be readily noticable.

iroc, i hear what you're saying about the r & d. but i believe, in the case of Rigid for example, that they have made their money 100 times over in respect to r&d costs. however, they still sell their products at astronomical prices. to each his own, if you wanna pay three times more for a product.
Being that i have been in the import/export industry for the past 15 years, i too have done my fair share of r&d. i can tell you on products that are much more complicated than lighting, the r&d, patents, licensing do not justify a 1000% profit margin. This is why "most" people including myself have taken their manufacturing overseas. Believe me when i say i'd rather keep the manufacturing local, but it just doesnt make sense. In many cases i have brought the parts in from overseas and setup assembly lines here in california. at least we can employ a few locally.
BTW, rigid's reflective lens design isnt anything special. im sure R&D wasnt too much of a cost....if it was the R&D team should be fired.
i don't really want to get into a convo about this stuff, but i do appreciate your knowledge and the research you have done on the lighting.
    good talk.

Can't disagree with that. These products do seem fairly straight-forward, and I've wondered about the seemingly high cost.

It's good to see some competition, that's for sure. :)

Hey! Nice looking lights. How tight is the spot pattern? I'm interested in the package deal, but I want the ten inch for reverse, boat ramps, camping etc. Do you think the spot will be wide enough for those apps?
    Thanks!

The ten inch is more than enough. You will get a nice spot beam and some flood from the outer leds. It'll actually be perfect for what you're using it for.

    Spot....the flood pattern is useless.
You get a bit of ambient flood lighting out of spot as well.
