If I were going to do something like that, I wouldn't make it so you'd have to cut the wire, otherwise you'd have to resolder it every time. I'd make it a clip connector so the second they unclip it, the alarm goes off. If that doesn't scare them off, they're going to take the bar regardless, if it does scare them off, all you have to do is plug it back in and you're back in business.

Vision X is coming out with intelligent LED technology, as is Rigid.

We are talking colors, GPS tracking, GoPro Cameras built into the bars, dimmable, programmable, built in shock sensors, built in accelerometers for performance testing, wireless control modules.

Well not necessarily cut the wire, but have a break in it, like what you suggested. Or put a quick connector and have it so they see it right away and they disconnect it thinking its the power

That's exactly what I was thinking. Make a nice, visible quick connect so they think it'll be simple and BOOM, alarm.

With the price tag they are going to be, you can build it yourself for no where near the cost they will charge. All of that sounds cool and is awesome to have, but you can get accelerometers and gps trackers along with cameras for relatively cheap. But then, you have those that just want to spend the money lol

Actually, with progress and development the price on these items is coming down. Baja Designs recently did a price cut on their line of products for example.

If you have a crap load of lights on your truck like I do, why not make all of them come on when the alarm is triggered? I have some of them set up to flash with the factory alarm lol

Even if it adds cost, it's protecting your investment though. One purloined bar makes it up fast.

Not the same but I etch the stereo gear I buy..I take the amp cover off and do it inside the cover so it isn't as obvious for a crook to deface, but simply removing the cover will prove ownership.

I don't think they are going to make them with real time gps tracking, but probably a logger for the video. But I could be wrong.

That's kind of what I do before I take my truck to the dealer lol

You never know, it could be for mapping a race truck on a course so the crew would know where they are at all times.

Not everyone is privileged enough to have a garage.. While yes, I do have one (Town Home - like a 3/4 car) it's hard to fit in there. It takes up a lot of room and requires to move a lot of things. While I did achieve to fit it in there, I ended up having to move my workout equipment inside. It's now rendered useless, but I can't afford to have more shit stolen off my truck so the decision was an obvious one.

The idea of alarming your investment is nice b/c it makes them leave rather quickly but if they already have it in their hands they aren't going to drop it and run. They're going to take off with it. The alarm is simply a deterrent to keep them from stealing more than one item which is useless. The point here is to either be able to track your stolen items or keep them from stealing the item all together. Of course there is a chance they disconnect/cut before disassembly so an alarm might stop them from taking the item, but that's a gamble. It's better than nothing I suppose.

This is actually not all that hard to do although for race tracking, the receivers are usually on or near the course and within radio range for any telemetry that might also be sent with the location info.

Removed coal filter, Also installed AFE air filter. Roof rack with custom diamond plate air diverter.
If you have an alarm on your taco, then incorporate the light bar into it. Could use tiny pin switches that will set off alarm.
On a side note, you may want to install cameras at your home pointing at the taco.
Sorry for your loss, hopefully the thief/theives choke on it!

lol don't live in the ghetto.. Regardless, I think we've established that if someone wants it bad enough, they're going to take it no matter what it takes. Just depends how much of your truck you want them to eff up in the process. I myself will likely not be purchasing another large light bar until the gps feature is incorporated into them. Hopefully we'll see something the first or second quarter of this year.
