Hello guys. New 2022 Tacoma owner here. I’ve searched a bit but seems most use a switch inside the cab.

I want to wire up 20” light bar that I got with new steel bumper. My understanding is tap the relay into high beam power. Power the light bar with battery terminal and then ground of course. Does this sound right?

my understanding is when highbeams are turned in, that powers the relay, turning on lightbar.

I don’t want to have switch, just have light bar come on when I use high beams which is essentially off-road only anyways.

    Welcome to TW.

Do not wire up off-road lights to any part of your street lighting system.

Use a switch. There are switches out there that blend so well they look stock.

Generally any decent length light bar will be too bright to meet legal standards for auxiliary highbeams (capped at 75,000cd per lamp by SAE J581). Some state laws do not regulate a maximum intensity for "spot lamps," some do. Check what your local laws are before tying in auxiliary lighting.

As far as wiring goes, yes you should use the highbeam circuit as your switch circuit, but you should also have an inline switch so that your auxiliaries can be kept turned off for normal day to day driving/flashing/signaling.

Is your truck equipped with halogen or oem LED headlights? This will affect how you can tap into the highbeam circuit.

Thank you. I have OEM halogens. I don’t use highbeams day to day, only off-road or in significantly rural areas way north.

So I’m not using highbeam to blind people, I use highbeam so rarely that’s why I wasn’t concerned about a switch.

Put a switch in, it’s super easy and useful.
    You will thank me later.
