 The guy at my shop just asked me if I wanted to be his show truck for his lighting products. He just did a Jeep Rubicon with a Rigid bar, it looked good. I think I am going to do it. He has bids with local, state and federal police in our area and he wants to use my truck to show him what he can do along the lines of undercover lighting. I will post pics when and if it happens. I will have to pretty it up a bit before that happens.

How many lumens do those HID lights produce? Can a light bar even create the same brightness?

yeah mine is that bright if not brighter. its hard for me to take a photo like that though cause there is nowhere around here with trees or anything for reference just open ground and since its aimed at the horizon to identify objects it doesnt properly show the distance.

Not gonna lie...that's the coolest illumination add-on I've ever seen on a truck of any kind. So much so that I want one bad. However, at a price tag of $1,399 there's no fucking way I'll even consider it.

This has me thinking about building my own. :D

    thanks

let me know how that turns out building your own thing. those companies put a ton of R&D into the lenses and reflectors in their light bars and is really the only difference between the different brands. the other main thing to consider is the control circuit for the light and being able to cool it sufficiently.

This is exactly where I am thinking of doing a mount. Preferably a Rigid 30"... I wonder if it would fit? Do you have any pics from looking inside the truck?

Yeah, the heat was my main concern. The lens really shouldn't be that bad to figure out. It all has to do with focal points of the lens. I learned the stuff in highschool physics forever ago. Now I'm wishing I could remember lol

And I already found the LED's for cheap. Same ones too ;)

like of them lighting wise? no, go back a couple of post of mine, ill see if maybe i cant find a good spot over the weekend for you.

but to help you out the way i mounted them was all i did was drill two holes @ 32" on center in a piece of flat iron bar and bolted that bar to the aluminum brace for the bumper which already had holes all the way thru it. then just drilled more holes in the flat bar to mount the light to.

oh and another note is that the bumper itself kinda blocks some of the light so if your looking at like the euro style bar where its spot in the middle and flood on the sides, im not sure how much actual flood youll get with it behind the grill. mine is all spot and it seems to block alot behind the grill even.

CREE's? im pretty sure thats what they all use. the lens on mine is like molded so that its a solid piece of plastic from the front all the way back to the led. its not just a cover. i think on the rigids it is mainly a cover and they use the rear reflector as their main concentration of light. as far as cooling their all basically fin cooled off of the rear like an air cooled engine. hope that helps.

Yea the plan would be take that part of the grill off and just have the bar there. Have a really clean look. And that would be awesome to see some pics! thanks!

can i ask your reasoning for wanting lights, do you do a lot of night wheeling? for the price of the lights there are a lot better more effective uses for the money. like locker if you dont have one, sliders and other trail armor. if i had bought my truck before i bought my light i wouldnt have spent the money on it i would have regeared and put in a locker. just my two cents.

I need lights to see both on and off road. Especially when I am backing up at night, I have a anytime push button reverse camera with push button reverse lights that you can see in this thread. I use them more often then you think even when someone is tailgating me.....haha..... its effective. They are also fun to use when messing with friends......:D

i was actually asking OP but i want to do that too put some nice bright reverse lights on so i can mess with tailgaters. all LED light bars are technically illegal on road though. especially here in CA.

The most important thing about the legality of LED lights is the price!!!! I just priced 30" led light bars............. $1400.... Really!!!!
