LED Light Bars

Well what did you have before that "needed fixed/replaced" so often?? Name brand bar isn't going to help with theft prevention... I recommend you try a cheaper alternative IMO. That way you can afford to replace with the savings you get from a less expensive model, if anything happens. Which I still haven't heard anything bad from the cheaper alternatives but on the other hand I have from the name brands.. If you are really worried about it, you can try your luck with some of the claimed 'lifetime warranty' deals here on TW, or other retailers..

I found the new osram 21.5 200watt 18k lumens for $135. That's a pretty darn good deal. One year warranty. Prices are quickly rising on these. Went up almost $100 on the 42" I want already in the last week or so. Or the evo prime knock off with 10watt crees is great. I've got a 20" and it's pretty awesome. No leaks or hazing or anything on that or the other 3 bars of the same I have. Nice throw and flood pattern, even with 10k lumens. finish isn't the greatest though. But I think it costs more than the new osrams right now.

I think you should go for this one. 18k lumens in a 21" is pretty awesome.

can anyone tell whos light bar this is? purchased from member here recieved bar was broken (i believe in shipping) but member didnt answer PMs and has not been active.So just trying to find out manufacture so i can order new end.

Looks like just a cheap eBay/ Amazon style light. if I were you, I would just get some 'L' brackets from the local hardware store. Drill out the holes so the mounting bolts fit through, then cut them to size. Mach everything up to where you are comfortable. break the whole thing down and rough the surface up so you can paint them satin black.

I had the displeasure of seeing some of these in person recently. the mounting hardware is cheap metal and I could see a hit from a tree or obstacle doing the same thing while off-road. Best mod we did on the install was the 'L' brackets from home depot. Also, get some of the 1/4" nylon spacers to use as a pivot point and not scratch your bars. You will need new bolts too. The current ones will not work they are too long. Bring the light bar in with you to mach the whole thing up in the hardware isle.

Do it, don't hesitate. Alternatively, I know 540taco has the original mounting hardware form his 6"ers. If you want the stock hardware, he might be inclined to sell his to recoup a little money from the venture.

To recap. Your shopping list should be this.

1. appropriate length "L" brackets for the area you want to mount the bar. ie. if you are mounting underneath your rack or on a bumper, you would need shorter ones. if mounting on a rack on the front, then you will need longer ones. Then drill the holes out to the right size and cut the ends off since they will be to big anyways.

2. Nylon spacers. 1/4" works nice. You can use a pair of pliers and bore the center out with a drill to get it large enough for one of your bolt to fit through. 1/4" drill worked best for us.

3. shorter bolts for the mounting to your light bar. Bring your bar and hardware with you so there are no mistakes Mach it up in the isle with you for proper fitment.

 

Whatever gets purchased, do your diligence to protect it now. Get security bolts/ hardware from one of the big companies. I treat every mod I do the same way. I mod like I know someone is going to try and steal it at any moment. Flipping your brackets so the mounting holes are under the bar is one way. Well, on Rigids it is.

Mark all your gear with an etching pen and then reseal it or put a drop of nail polish in an inconspicuous spot so if you saw one somewhere you could easily inspect it and identify your property.

I love my Rigid 20"s. Seen some real nice Baja Designs ones too.

 

I already purchased a craddle bracket for it but the one end is FUBARED,i need to purchase a new end cap.(third pic)

 

Ah, I see that now. I would definitely file a claim with the carrier. Might get a 'Rigid' out of it

 

Good advice! Those security kits really do help. I am working on some security kits that should be much less expensive then what is out there now.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before.. But If you guys are really worried about it, weld a cap over the nut/bolt. That way the only way to get it off is to take a grinder to it and shave it off. And if someone has the balls to do that to steal it, You'll definitely hear that in the middle of the night!

 

I can get that with a flat head, no problem. Spanner heads are much better. Frankly, if I was going to steal something, I would scope it out first then come back with the right tools to get it done.

That is the bolt head style is what I am going to offer, with the slot lock bottoms.

Anyone have a problem with water getting into the cab with mounting a light bar on the roof using the factory roof rack holes?

 

Not me or that I've heard of. Use some butyl tape as a gasket type seal. Or even silicone. Butyl can easily be removed/replaced if you ever need to take them off. Silicone works fine too though. Just be sure to seal it between the cab and mount, and not just a bead around the edge of the mount. But I used a Butyl tape strip in between, bolt down, done.
