LED Light (Wired Version) Poll

All, for those interested in the V2W, please feel free to begin 'pre-ordering' here by simply starting a list with your name, state, and desired color scheme.

The V2W will be available in the same four standard color schemes; AMBER/WHITE, RED/WHITE, BLUE/WHITE, and GREEN/WHITE - all with standard AMBER halos.

As with the V1, you will have the option to select a custom halo color for only $5.00. You may also select a completely custom color scheme as well. Just ask.

FYI - Standard V2Ws in being assembled at this time - completion is pending receipt of the final component (still being manufactured) which is expected on 11/18/2011.

Installation pictures will likely be posted on our website similar to the current V1 page in the coming weeks. You will need only: Precision side cutters and/or a sharp utility knife, pliers, and about 20 minutes of your time. Our preliminary installs took very little effort with only minor cutting to allow room for the two wires. If the installation is done correctly, no evidence of modification can be seen - even if our unit is removed! The cutting/trimming is hidden BEHIND the HVAC control panel and is minimal. V2W wires will connect the the HVAC control panel's harness and ground lug. Pictures will be posted for clarification soon. Pliers are needed only to crimp the AMP wire taps. These items are extremely clean and easy to use.

if i was to order, it would be red/white...... but what is this custom halo for $5??? please elaborate the custom halo?

 

The halos are the little illuminated rings around the Touch-Sensitive Dimming Control (TSDC) contacts which are used for adjusting the brightness. The standard color is AMBER to match the Tacoma's AMBER/ORANGE interior lighting. You may elect another color and have it custom built to your liking for only $5.00 more.

 

Better for both the V1 and V2W! Volume UP = Prices DOWN!

Not exactly. Four color schemes are available: AMBER/WHITE, RED/WHITE, GREEN/WHITE, and BLUE/WHITE (all have standard AMBER halos for the same price). If you want a RED/WHITE it will come with standard AMBER halos unless you decide you want some other color.

Not to confuse the issue, but you may also elect for a completely custom unit: For example, we can build you a AMBER/BLUE with BLUE halos if you want. In this case, yes it would cost more (only to cover the additional labor).

 

wait i think i understand it...... looking at your site.. there are 4 halos..can you tell me the functions from left to right?

Lightly touching the (2) LEFT contacts simultaneously will decrease the light intensity. Touching the (2) RIGHT contacts will increase light intensity. The metal 'balls' are part of the electrical circuit connected to a field-effect transistor (FET). The speed at which the intensity changes has everything to so with moisture - if your finger tips are sopping wet say, from handling a cold drink, the TSDC adjustment will be rapid. If your finger tips are comparitively dry, dimming will be slower.

Additionally, the illuminated rings in this picture, represent custom GREEN halos.

FYI: On the V1 (battery-powered unit) and V2W, the halo intensity does NOT change by adjusting the TSDC settings or Tacoma's dimmer settings.

 

holy crap...this thing is very hi tech....soo assuming i leave my finger on the 2 left long enough, it'll turn off the unit completely correct?

i want a red/white combo but dont know what color halos... haha maybe red halos... i like red... red red red

Close, if you touch and hold the LEFT TSDC contacts, the primary (or secondary) LEDs will dim completely down. But, the unit will still be considered ON. For the V1, the halos will continue to consume the batteries - although very slightly. The V2W, being wired to the vehicle will NOT be consuming batteries in this condition.

Both the V1 and V2W have the same 3-position switch (OFF/Primary/Secondary) and will function exactly the same. You can shut the units OFF completely by sliding the switch all the way to the LEFT. The middle position is the primary color (in your case, RED). The far right position is for the secondary color (in your case, WHITE).

The difference between the V1 and V2W is in the wiring. The V2W will be wired to the Tacoma's OEM harness (behind the HVAC panel) and MUST be wired to the vehicle in order for it to work properly. You can, for any reason, dismount either unit (V1 or V2W) from the mounting plate. They will BOTH continue to work! The V1 is always on battery power. The V2W switches (automatically) to battery-power when dismounted - assuming the switch is in one of the two ON positions.

Magenetic mounting facilitates easy battery replacement for either design. To clarify, the V2W uses the Tacoma OEM harness for power control and uses the TSDC system for 'fine tuning' the light intensity.
