Good morning, I’m thinking about upgrading to LED headlights, low beam. The kits are reasonably priced. Looks like something this old mechanic could still install.
What’s your opinions on changing from original to LED? Thanks for any input. Oh yeah, mine is a 17 Limited.

You'll hear a few people bashing LED headlights, and telling you to get different standard bulbs instead.
The problem is, those "higher output" bulbs will fail within 12 months, if not sooner. So you'll replacing bulb quite often, which adds to the cost.

I had HIDs, but found them way too intense, and they both failed prematurely. I ended up with the Supernova V4 LEDs.
They were easier to install than the HIDs, the beam pattern is excellent, and I find the light output more than acceptable.

I went with plug and play Diode Dynamics and their 3 year warranty. Love em. Not so bright you look like a douche but plenty of light/spread to see what you need to see. Perfect for what I was looking for.

See below. These are the ones you want. :)

These got hot enough to warm the lenses on my housings after just running them for about 2 minutes just to make adjustments. I can't imagine how much hotter they would get when running for long periods of time. I feel that these definitely would get warm enough to melt snow.

I'm in the camp that says that LEDs just appear brighter due to a unfocused beam and they just give off a ton of glare. I've been blinded by LEDs countless times. I can easily tell factory LEDs from non-factory.

I went with LED fogs that are SAE approved and upgraded to the best halogens I could get, and I'm extremely happy. Sure the lifespan is a bit shorter, but I don't mind spending $30 a year when I have a 35k - 40k truck.

I used to have led low beams but were too bright and went back to halogen.

Every time someone posts a new thread about putting LED's in their halogen projector housings, a TW member gets his wings.

I enjoy my LEDs. Both high and low beam. The color is cooler so it seems like it's not as bright as halogen bit they certainly get the job done. I think mine are about 6500s. You'll have to buy an LED with a smaller backend otherwise it won't fit into the lamp with the frame in the way.

This happened to me so the ones that didn't fit into low I put into the high beams and bought a new pair that fit into the low. Still need to swap out my fog lights though.

    Edit:
This is mostly preference. I thought old school yellow halogen bulbs looked like trash on a 2017 truck.
