    Hi guys,

I’ve got a 21’ TRD OR DCSB reserved. It’s being built 6/15. Unfortunately, there weren’t many options for this particular truck so I jumped on the closest thing I could find that wasn’t reserved. Long story short, I want the LED package and my truck doesn’t have it. Will/can the dealership install the LED package at Toyota’s package cost (485)? Anyone have luck getting the dealer to add OEM parts at cost?

They'll charge you about $1500 for it done at the dealer. Can't beat the $485 factory option.

That isn’t cost. You’ve paid for the halogen assemblies, which you wouldn’t have done with the ~$500 factory option. It also isn’t plug and play, you need aftermarket adapters. Cost is close to $1500 to add them after the fact. You could try to negotiate the OEM LED headlights at cost as part of the sale and save a little, but install will surely be DIY due to the aftermarket adapter harness required.

Did you see if they can request the build change on the allocated truck? Seems color and some other items can be changed. Worth a shot to ask to get what you want!

The LED headlights are a factory option. In my case, I didn't specify them in my initial request to the dealer, but the factory put them on anyway. As a result, the dealer ended up giving them to me for free. I'm not complaining.

Yeah, I’m gonna give that option a try this week I think. Hopefully that’s a package they can add on to my build! Thanks for the suggestion.

So I'm dealing with someone along the same lines as this with my recent tacoma purchase. Below is what I posted in the 2020 Tacoma OEM LED Headlight Megathread. After the response to my post by daveeasa, I've realized I should have done some more research as non LED Tacoma's require a specific harness.

First post on TW, sorry it's going to be a bit of a rant. I just took delivery of my 21 OR DCLB yesterday from the dealership. The only package that I had to have was the OEM LED Headlights. A great bargain at $485. I made this clear to my salesperson and reiterated that I was only interested in OEM, nothing aftermarket. The Tacoma in the configuration I wanted was being delivered soon and had everything I wanted except for the LED's. We negotiated a deal that included $445 for the headlights and they agreed to install them ASAP and assured me they had the parts in stock. I noticed the $40 difference in price from toyota's website, made a comment about it and the salesperson just said that is the price it shows.

Fast forward to today when I go to the dealership for my service appt. to have them installed. Prior to the work, the advisor has me sign the paperwork where I notice it says PIAA LED Bulbs. I told her I'm getting the headlight assembly and she said she can't change what's on the paperwork. Okay, hopefully they get it right. Nope. 10 minutes later she finds me to tell me that the headlight assembly is not authorized and the person who I need to talk to won't be in until Tuesday. I'm frustrated and take off, try to call my salesman who is also not there today.

Admittedly I'm not very savvy about the installation of these. Would there be any reason why the OEM LED's could not be installed on my truck?

I'm going to give it a day before I start to raise hell with the dealership.

The OEM LED are a factory only option because the engine bay harness is different, to match the different connection on the OEM LED assembly. At this point you're fairly much stuck in the aftermarket, either LED lamps in the halogen assembly, or an aftermarket adapter to match up the halogen bay harness to the OEM LED assembly.

I doubt they would agree to swap out the $3400 engine bay harness. I suppose you could go after unwinding the deal given they failed to meet the one and only build requirement.
