If you are wondering what they are capable of, Thanks to Mike for supplying me with a prime example of these bad boys at doin work.
He is running Donahoe Racing C/O's in this picture, though they are the same as the ones being sold since Leeper made the shocks for Donahoe.

These Coilovers are comparable to Icon Coilovers. Don't let the price fool you, they are top of the line.

Many of you have probably never heard of Leeper MFG, and many of you have.

    Here's the story behind them.

Leeper MFG. were the sole manufacturers of Donahoe Racing shocks for their coilovers.

Donahoe told Leeper that they needed many more shocks made.

Leeper spent thousands of dollars to buy what was necessary to fulfill Donahoe's order.

During this time, Kraig Donahoe was charged and found guilty for distribution of child pornography.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics bought out Donahoe and all the designs and schematics for their shocks (which Leeper made). So now the plans were property of Icon.

Leeper was stuck with all the shocks they purchased.

Leeper believed it was Icons responsibility to buy the shocks back from them.

Icon was ok with it, but wanted to play by their own rules and pick and choose the parts they wanted.

So basically the parts you need to build the shocks are A,B, and C.

Icon went in there and let's just say they just wanted to buy all the B parts and a few C's.

That left Leeper with inadequate parts to build a complete shock.

So Leeper declined the offer and decided "what the hell, let's just build from what we have and sell the shocks with Leeper MFG. on the top"

Since it was Icon's design, they said "F that, we aren't letting them get away with it"

They filed suit and went to court.

I'm not sure what happened from there, since Leeper is still selling shocks though Icon says illegally, though the product is Leepers.

So Leeper is just trying to make their money back by selling the inventory since Donahoe/Icon screwed em.

    That's the story behind them.

Please feel free to add any more info you know about the drama, yet I made this thread for people who need quality shocks for cheap.

Note: I am not on anyone's side on this issue as I understand both Leeper and Icon's arguments.
awesome deal on an awesome coilover. ..however, from reading the other thread, it appears these are not the original digressively valved donahoes. ..they are progressively valved which would make them similar to sway-a-way and the like (as far as the ride goes). ...at any rate, these look to be a steal!

These should be in this thread too. Just so people can make an informed decision.

I notice you keep only posting Icon's side, skipping quotes like the following from Leeper:

Just to be clear, I'm not defending either side. I just think that if you are going to tell people about a product that is potentially being sold illegally you should tell people that there is such a dispute.

Post 1 info gives a good indication on what Leepers position here is. Hence Icon's needs to be presented. I don't personally care how this goes legally. I just think people have the right to more information on the situation before they make a decision.

Ah, I understand. Fair enough. Just to be clear, the lawsuit is already settled (apparently on Leeper's side) since that ttora thread is 2 years old.

Excellent. If Leeper actually won rights to sell these then there isn't any issue. Just good prices for us and some loss recovery for them. :)

If, on the other hand Icon just dropped the suit until enough money was involved to make it worth pursueing again... A lawsuit that has been dropped can be filed again. A lawsuit that was either settled or ruled on cannot be. Though a lawsuit with a ruling can be appealed.

EDIT: I can't find any record of this lawsuit so I can't see if it was dropped or what... If someone else can, then please post a link or pm me one.

    pardon. ..i misread.

that makes me question why icon went back to a progressive set up. ..seems like they're taking a step backwards since the digressive valving was what set the 'hoes apart from the crowd.

fwiw, here's a link from back in 08 when this all went down.

Unfortunately, That is not even close to the true story behind this. First of all Leeper is a machine shop that manufactured some parts for Donahoe Racing. They never built shocks as they are a machine shop and not a suspension company. When Donahoe closed down Leeper did have parts in inventory which ICON agreed to purchase. When we attempted to pick them up and pay for them we were told by Leeper that he no longer wanted to sell them. At this point he machined many more parts and invested much more money to purchase other items such as seals, springs, valving, etc. so he could build complete shocks.
The major problem with this is that it is totally illegal as ICON owns the drawings that the parts were built off of. It clearly states this on every drawing that they have. He could re-coop some of his loses by selling the parts but, he cannot use them to make completed products. We began legal proceedings 2 years ago when this nonsense started and held off as we were told it would stop. We really do not want to hurt Leeper financially. Even though it is a slam dunk case on our part as we own the intellectual property and the intended function of the parts and a job shop like Leeper is fully aware of the ramifications of copying these parts. Now that I see post like this it is time to review this again.
The real reason I am posting is to help stop the miss-information that I have read on these post's and to warn you the consumer. These are not ICON or Donahoe shocks. They do not have the custom made valving or springs that we use. I realize that the price is very low but, do you really want shocks that were made by a machine shop illegally or by a suspension company that utilizes the knowledge of one of the industry's top engineers? You have no idea what kind of service and support you will receive with these shocks and ICON will not service these illegal shocks in the future. I doubt the machine shop carries liability insurance for when and if the shocks fail.

Question: You're saying you were going to buy the entire stock of parts for the price at which Donahoe had ordered them right then and there and were denied?

Question: Were these parts that were made and machined also taken directly from the drawings that constitute your IP?

Last Question: Who would want to buy a limited run of random shock parts?

In fact we gave them back parts that we purchased from Donahoe and agreed to re-purchase them as well.

    Yes

That is part of being a job shop. If you make parts for a manufacturer and they do not pick them up you can be stuck with various parts. You can not make and purchase 50% more parts and make a finished product that someone else owns.
