Same cap, had it for over two years and it has always leaked somewhere

Never had actual soaked cargo so it isn't horrible, just not preferred :(

    back to bone stock.
I think the majority of the install is on the installer.

I'd climb in with a flashlight and have a friend hit it with a hose.

I made a point to ask my dealer specifically to make sure my canopy would be water tight around the box of the truck. They did their best but at highways speeds it still leaked a bit in the corners. It's too bad that Toyota didn't design the box of the Tacoma to be more compatible with a canopy.

Anyways, what you have to do is remove your canopy and apply liberal amounts of silicone caulking. That's the only way to really ensure that no water is making it's way through. Since I redid mine over a year ago I'm not getting any more water coming through anywhere.

You can seal the front corners with cap tape if it is installed correctly , I redid mine and zero leaks

Craig, its not just mine. Like I said they are made by hand. That means that there will be inconsistencies. Over torquing the screws that hold the windows on? Thats them, not my dealer. Issues with the fiberglass (you can tell it was painted over) again them, not my dealer. I can go on and on. Is it really that hard for you to believe that Leer could make some bad caps? Its clear from this post that they do. Could my dealer not sent it back? Maybe but some of the fiberglass issues were fixed so I am a little puzzled how that worked as my shop does not do paint work.

Seriously I am glad you got 5 great caps that do not leak or had any issues. However as I mentioned above, Leer is capable of messing up and I am not the only one. I have judged them over how they handled the issues, and that's what my post reflects.

All the caps that I bought from them were there top of the line, so maybe that is where the difference is. Different side and rear windows. Maybe it's just a tighter fit then your model. Hope you get everything worked out.

Cap was just fixed from the leak. All it was, was the rear brake light. They put on a new one and it doesn't leak anymore.

As people have said you have to take some time and weatherstrip on some shells around the rear shell window and the tailgate. Both to keep dust out and water. Also dust sneaks in from the bed cubbies. They have drain holes that are open to the rear wheel wells, I had to tape them closed. I'm about 99.9% dust free in the bed now, still get a little dust sneaks in right at the bottom corners of the tailgate, water free also and that's with a front boot on the Leer 180.

My local Leer dealer did replace one of my sliding windoors free of charge under warranty, it was leaking badly. Took them about an hour.

Yes some say better never than Late ! I bought a 100xl it leaks, mine is in the back near the "frameless" back window, and the carpet soaks up water then mold starts to grow - it gives you that warm feeling.. so now that I took it there, and I'm still in the prone position, I am going to search for it, then they can fix it.... I'm not taking it up the tailpipe no way.. Leer quality control is wha ? :luvya:

100xl here but its probably an 06 cap so i dont know how much has changed in 8 yrs. Mine fits good, only leaks are dust and water through sides of tailgate. Gotta seal them before the next desert trip.

I agree with the comment above that the window gap is very weird.

I have had 2 Leers and a snugtop in the past. They have all leaked a bit at the front seams. Dealer does a good job checking seals and seams, and fixed leaks always. However.....after a while, (9months-5 years) they eventually begin to leak again. I am under the impression that if you want it completely dry forever, buy a SUV. I am happy with my cap and truck and when it does leak, it has to be a downpour and even then, the amount of water is minimal.

    Great links

I solved my front corner issues by using a 2" cap tape that goes full length corner to corner and folds 1" onto the horizontal top surface of the front bed rail and 1" down the cab side face

I know this is old and i'm having the same issue with my current 2017 - how did you plug up the corners at the tailgate? the regular 3m stuff falls off in that area since it's right at the bedrail - mine is currently getting through the cracks and going into my bedrug as well when i'm parked slightly at a downhill.
