Not sure if you've hung out in the shell/tonneau subforum much but they're all churning out pieces of crap. ARE/SnugTop/Leer/Century/Etc all have had major issues and all have said tough shit to the customer.

There's a YouTube by Leer that shows them building a canopy and they put plywood reinforcement in while they are shooting the saturated chopped fiber. I took it that every canopy they lay up has it.

Pretty sure there's plywood there anyway. Whether or not they add more for $300 rails is unlikely IMO..

Reinforced roof models are much more expensive than $300. The rails themselves retail for around that price.

Look up what the actual "reinforced roof" option costs and use your best guess on whether that's true or not.

I'd suggest highly though to get a good dealer. If/when you have an issue with the shell, they will be your only hope.

If he's blowing smoke, go elsewhere.

Painted, free sliding frt window, lined, sliding side windows with screen, interior light, wired and installed including tax [6%] $1400.00. Gen 2 DCSB. Prices were all over because I called several places and had quotes up to a bit over $1800.00.

FWIW, the interior light is stupid because the way Toyota powers the electrical system, it won't work unless the truck is running/KO. I'd just toss in a couple tap lights if I ever did it again and use commercial quality double sided tape.

So basically I could add a rack on top on my own later if I wanted?

That's what I think.... But give Leer a call and see what they say vs. the dealer.

I'll be putting Thule's artificial gutters on mine–when it's here in another week or so–just like my last two caps so add/remove my racks.

Price sounds about right to me. Really like my leer 100r, bought it used from another member about 10 months ago, paid 600 for it, then had it painted for 500. Total investment 1100. Priced this shell from local dealer and was quoted 2100 with carpet ceiling, sliding window, pet screens, clothes hanger, 2 lights, racks and bars. Really cant imagine not having the shell now, it is so nice to leave stuff in the back and not worry with it.

We call them camper shells in my part of the country....

My installed rack leaked. First it was the topper then the rack. I've taken it back to a factory store 4x and they say they fix it but every rain says no. Sold the truck and never getting a leer. My 2c.
