Leer 100R roof rack install?

Just wanted to chime in here and see if anyone has installed Yakima components to a Leer cap? Seems that A.R.E. sided with Yakima, and Leer partnered with Thule. I just picked up a Leer cap and wondering if I can install the Yakima rail system on this cap so I can utilize some of the existing Yakima gear I have from my car rack.

 

Yes. The tracks for either will fit equipment from either system.

 

Do you have any pictures of the interior ceiling? I recently bought a 100RCC second hand and it doesn't have any roof rack system. I'm curious if anything special needs to be done, or if it's as simple as just drilling on through.

 

My DeWalt Prorac is just through bolts but thst rack system is discontinued

 

Ok thanks. It's looking like there's nothing different with installing a rack on these vs. the regular cap. Just have to drill right on through.

 

@OZ-T Is your rack bolted through the reinforcements on the inside, or just the roof itself?

 

I'm not sure if there is an additional reinforcements in the cap roof at the points where the bolts come through , all you can see under the head liner is the bolt end and nylocks

Thanks for all the help. There's not much out there on the web in terms of these RCC's. I won't be carrying a heavy load anyways, so whatever I do should be fine but want to do it right if I can

 

Something to consider is that by bolting directly thru cap on an A.R.E. voids lifetime warranty on cap. Might wanna check with LEER.

Exactly - A.R.E. only honors their warranty if their factory does it. So looks like LEER does same thing - if you do an aftermarket rack build I would bet LEER would void warranty if clear coat starts to peel - or something starts to flex or window seals start leaking.

 

I'm not worried about that in the slightest, but I appreciate the concern.

Sorry to dig up an old post but is there any downside to not installing tracks? Just got a leer 100xq second hand and I want to install racks on it for kayaks. Not worried about voiding warranty just wanted to see if skipping tracks is sketchy or would increase the probability of leaking?
