I have a Leer cap on my Tacoma, purchased in 08. The third brake light is full of moisture and the middle two LED's have failed. I'm looking to replace it. I have found lots of forums and info on installing one of these, but I can't find anything on removing the old one. The current one is recessed into the cap and doesn't not appear secured with any screws. Probably double sided tape? I don't want to pry away on it with a bar or I am going to trash the paint on the cap or break the rear window. Can the light be popped out from the inside through the wiring hole? Advice appreciated.

Yeah, I saw that thread. They pretty much chat about everything except removing the old light. Thanks anyway.

No screws on the inside of my shell. Only thing protruding through is the wire. That's why I'm thinking double sided tape, or maybe even silicone. Hoping somebody out there has ripped one of these out successfully.

I'm in the same boat. My Leer 100R third light up top is filled with moisture, crooked and also an odd color. Looking to change it out soon.

Any good online store to buy a new light?

I found lights all over the place. Most truck accessory sites and some on E-Bay.

I'm hesitant to attempt any repair without some background knowledge first, because once I snip those wires I'm committed, and the repair must get done. It is illegal to drive up here without a third brake light.

After finding no help on this forum or on the web, I said *&%@ it, and took the risk. Went at it with a pry bar, and it popped loose. Light broke to, but who cares.

How do I remove the third brake light on cap without damaging cap? I don't see any screws or bolts to remove. Does it just pop out. The truck is a Toyota Tacoma access cab w 6 ft. bed year is 2008. Please reply

Go to leer dealer order a replacement. Look at replacement to figure out how to remove.
Mine is an xq (I think) and was bolted inside and had double sided tape on the exterior.

I replaced mine with the $25 on eBay. I got the clear looking one that is actually red LED. Fit great/works great with dbl sided tape install. Silicone around hole for wiring.

Removal of old with dbl sided tape using the plastic trim tools from Harbor Freight.
