Bought a 2018 and had a local Leer dealer install a 100xr within a week or two. I took it off for the first time last week and found it had rubbed small the paint completely off of the outside edge of the truck bed in three corners (each about 1cm diameter). There were other minor surficial scratches.

I'd like to put the cap back on, but now I'm a little concerned. The dealer that installed it just recommended grinding off a little of the cap. He said trail use can cause the cap to move slightly and lead to scratching, which makes sense. I am considering having a vinyl wrap around the outside edge of the truck bed, but a local place just told me it would cost them a minimum $600. I've put on touch up paint in the meantime.

Anyone have similar issues? Any solutions? The cap will stay on for the long term, so it's not easy to monitor.

Looks like poor instalation or to much material under cap lip. Just line it up square and feel along the edge to see if touching. You could always file down high spots. If the cap is properly bolted shouldn't move to much or at all. I added clamps on the front to help with any movement.

Poor insulation is my guess, mine was clear rubbed through after four years on along the whole bedside under my bedside covers. Not too much you can do, other than better I'd expect.

I put it back on for a labor day camp trip. My plan is to do as you mention and file down any high spots and then add some rubber stops to the inside of the cap to act as bumpers. We'll see if that does anything.

My ARE cap was the same way. When I took it off, I used a Dremel to hit the high spots that were causing the rub and then painted the bare metal to prevent rust. Wasn’t too worried about it since it’s under the cap.

I travel a lot of washboard / lease roads and had issues with it slipping back that's why I added two clamps to the front ( I added the slot track to the bed)
I plan on bolting it through the box / track in the rear to stop any movement. I<m always hesitant when tightening the clamps as it doesn't seem like a lot of reinforcement material at these points. I cant remember what torque spec Leer recommends but it wasn't more than hand tight.

I’ve through bolted my cap, but replaced the plastic bed side caps with the aftermarket metal ones first so there is something of substance for the bolt, washer and nuts to hang on to. The bedside sheet metal is too thin for me to trust it.

I think VooDoo fab made them but I bought them second hand. I think I paid $100. Sold the plastic caps too for like $40. They also allow the cap to sit lower which actually looks a lot better in my opinion. The cap sat a little higher than the cab before, now it’s the same height.

Looks like they are now aluminum but I am almost positive mine are steel.
