    hey all

    I had a new leer 100XL cap installed on my taco a few weeks ago. I was a bit concerned about the fit - along the sides I can get my hand up between the cap and the side of the truck. the pics below are on opposite sides of the truck, near the back, though on towards the front of the truck its more snug (like the cap is sort of rounded, it bulges in the middle).

    is this normal? should i be concerned? i already have an appointment to go back to the installer next week to address some water intrusion - should i bring this up? If it didn't have the "skirt" around the body, it would be a lot more clear how a "good" fit should look.

    Normal. Every Leer cap I've seen on a 3rd gen in person has had the same gaps.

    Normal - that's how these shells are built and why they look so good. Tacomas are notorious for having water intrusion. I would guess it's at the front of your bed. You need to seal your bed rails. It wasn't something your Leer dealer did wrong, just something Toyota doesn't really take into account for.

    Look through this thread- I posted an info on it. This is on my second gen but the same stands for you.

    Yikes! That's normal for LEER?

    I've seen Snugtop, ARE and Century toppers ... and I can say they fit way better than that.

    :frusty:

    @PistolPete412 - you sure that's for a Tacoma?

    I have a lip on my are but I’m pretty sure I can’t fit my fingers behind

    Edit: I just checked mine and I can fit my fingers if I have palms up like you did. When I was lining it up I actually just put my palms on the bed and tried matching where my finger tips hit. Just now checked I have more of a bow in the center (above rear wheel) on 1 side and the other isn’t as bad

    Normal. You don't want it too snug. The fibreglass might crack when the bed flexes.

    Thanks everyone. I feel a lot better about it now.

    My dealer actually sealed the front rail before putting the cap on, there’s still just a little leakage at one corner. And the windoor leaks at the slider :confused: not sure what they can do about that
