Leer Cap Owners please help me with my custom toolbox

You mentioned that the cap overhangs the truck bed rails , I'm wondering what the distance is from the overhanging cap "foot" to the same on the other side .

This will tell me what my maximum width of box could be .

100LX - Only inside photo I have uploaded. The cab back window and cap front window line up pretty well.


The following pics show that the cap contours the cab closely
Though I was told that the cap roof is insulated and thicker for strength

54" for the distance lip to lip from the topper.

48ish " for the narrowest point at the top.

37 1/4" from floor to ceiling.

The mock up box in the pics is 18" deep x 18" tall x 52 1/2" wide .

Back to the drawing board for the lid and I am good to go .

Looking at CC's interior pic above , it looks like the cap " foot " extend over the front of the box as well , and looks to be flush to the edge of the front bed rail .

Anyone confirm this ?

I have the technology to confirm that one, but not tonight
I'da thought you'd have that box complete by now

Not sure what you mean by foot
The front of the cap sits on the front of the bed.
The installer put a weather strip that hangs over the outside front of the bed
The cap (front wall) protrudes rearward about a 1/8" beyond the bed rail opening, causing a struggle to get the cleats locked in.
What I did notice is, my cap front window is removable and protrudes about 1" beyond the opening of the bed rail (toward back of truck)
Don't know about the non-removable window, but imagine it would be less
I'll get pics to illustrate tomorrow AM
Did confirm the 54" width (above) between the "bulges" where the bolts secure the cap to the bed rail
I have 36" between the bed floor and the forward ceiling light

OZ, I'll run out and take measurements off my Leer Legend. By the looks of your mock up, it would fit in my truck with the Legend.

EDIT:
I got the same numbers as mac. The cap's mounting "bracket" that gets bolted to our tie down runners, sticks out 7/8" from the rail, and is 4-1/2" long. There's no overhang on the front of the box.

I think the Carpet is what protrudes beyond the Rail Opening, Not the Fiberglass.
The Carpet was an option included in the "Adventure Package" from LEER

Thanks everyone that helped me out , I thought about it awhile and decided the best route was to get the cap first as was the obvious choice and pointed out by a few of you guys .

Ordered a Leer RCC cap today , should be here in 3-4 weeks , then I will commence project box build .

The Leer RCC , is a commercial reinforced cap with a roof loading rating of 400 lbs , comes with the Thule / DeWalt Pro Rack system mounted at the factory . It will look like this , but I am getting sliding windows rather than the solid doors on the sides .

 

Looking forward to hearing more about your project, and about that cap in particular.

 

Should be here by the end of the month

 

Damn canopy came with the mounting feet for the ProRac set too close together , it's going back and I am waiting another 3 weeks
