image.jpg Im trying to wire up my brake light on my Leer 100R I just picked up yesterday and I tried pretty much everything Ive read and nothing is working. I tapped into the blue wire and the black/white wire on the wiring harness coming out of the truck. I also tapped into the wires coming out of the brake light itself. I touched the wires from the cap light to a 9v battery to test the lighg and the light should come on right? Well it didnt. So now I'm just wondering if the light is just broken. PLEASE HELP!!!

If you have a 12volt battery charger hook the wires from the camper light to the charger should light up, if not bulbs are shot, mine is led and some of the lights burn and some dont, im replacing mine due to moisture

I just tried that and nothing happened. I would think at least a couple would come on or something. The person I picked it up from said it worked but I guess not. How are you taking yours out? Do you have to pry it off? Also where are you buying the new one from?

They are held on by 3-m tape, put a couple layers of tape around the light so you dont scratch the paint and take a small screwdriver and pry it off, just google leer camper shell brake light and it will bring up several on e-bay

Thanks for this. I just ordered that harness and plan to pic up a used cap on Monday. Did this work for your dome light as well as the third break? Assume it functions, you just need to have the lights on the truck for the dome light to work, is that right?

It makes both the dome light and third brake light work. And you are correct, the headlights or yellows need to be on for the dome light to work. As long as the tail lights are on, the dome light will be functional .

Maybe different for your rig but my dealer installed original order SnugTop interior light only works with the lights on Parking or ON and the engine running. Turn the engine off and the lamp goes out. Never liked that but that is how they did it.

My HiLux had a Leer cap which I wired myself straight to the battery. In the era before LEDs I would forget to turn it off and run my battery down.

While not the cheapest way, I ended up stealing the T connector from a trailer plug harness since I couldn't find just the T-Connector by itself. This kept me from having to cut or splice any of the factory wiring. I was going to use the second T-connector to pull power for the dome light, but I am installing a Aux fuse panel now and will likely just pull power from that for some nicer LEDs.

If you have already spliced into your tailight harness and want to replace it, you can order a factory replacement if you need too.

I picked up the cap yesterday and the wiring harness arrived the same day. I had the same color wires coming out of my taillight as Greg617 and this morning wired it up successfully. The dome light is broken in the used cap, so ordered one of those, but it should plug and plan in the existing harness now. The third break light works perfectly. Thanks for the help!

Right now, I am rocking the two tone look, but dropping off at Maaco in the AM for a color match - they are painting it for $225.

Hey just got a Leer camper, and have those same wires coming off a harness from the black box mounted inside the shell. the black box has fuses in it. I have a red/white, red, and black wire. My question is if I tap those 3 wires same as you did into my brake light, will the LED dome light inside the camper shell at the top have power to light up? I'm confused because ive been reading people had to run a hot wire from battery to light up the dome light? Thanks for the help in advance.

It wont have power unless your headlights or sidelights are on. So basically, if the taillights are not on the dome light will not work.
However, the 3rd brake light will work because the taillights get power when you hit the brakes. Hope this helps.
