Yeah that’s why I’m leaning towards just building it up the way I want. In the long run I know I won’t be happy without them, and it would always bother me I didn’t do it right the first time.

Plus the warranty of buying the shell new.

LEER 100R, here’s a pic of the tracks. About 42.5” apart (center to center of the track). Have an install scheduled tomorrow on the ‘20, I’ll check to see if there’s a difference from the ‘17...

I had a chance to measure (ignore my paint skills) and hopefully this gives the right idea. I drew a top-down view.

The top measurement is from the middle of the track to the middle of the other track. The bottom measurement is the distance between the two tracks, just from the actual track hardware itself.

Interesting. Your tracks are also pointed outwards like mine initially were, however since you have a rack already on there, they have the bracket angled so that it ends up being vertical. Now I'm just confused as to how these are actually supposed to be oriented since I've seen both ways.

    Awesome man thanks.

I know there are other mounting options out there , but for a $3k I don’t really want to take many chances. I already have a Prinsu cab rack , so top rack is a must.

I think the Thule crossbars are made to be used in the way the tracks came on the shell.

However I’m with you , bc I’ve heard that people have received the tracks mounted both ways, so not really sure what’s going on.

Agreed. I also have the Prinsu cab rack and feel the same way. How they both sit flush together and how modular they are makes them a must in my opinion, so I'm going to find a solution one way or another.

Also, I was looking again at those mounting feet for the leer shell. I tried to see if they said anything about them in the installation guide sent with the top rack, and what do you know...

    nmeGo65.jpg

Now I feel somewhat stupid. Although it kind of sucks that you don't know you need the mounts until after you've purchased the top rack and read through the installation instructions. Seems to me like Prinsu should offer an option when buying the rack to substitute these in instead.

Very true. I looked at the top rack before I ended up going with a bedrack and rtt set up. However I don’t recall ever seeing the “leer” feet as an option back then.

Not saying that I could have missed them , but I just don’t remember them. I guess I will just order them when I order my rack just in case.

But your right, there should be a drop down box or something if there isn’t for the top rack as an option.

Yeah, I wish I just known before hand. Now I'm stuck with a top rack completely put together just sitting in my living room with mounting racks currently on my shell while I wait for these other mounts to arrive. At least my misfortune could hopefully help someone though haha.

    Yeah that does suck.

But from looking at the new feet, the tracks on the shell would have still needed to be flipped.

I wonder if I can request them to be mounted how you have them now when I put my deposit down for the shell.

I would definitely ask. I'm not sure if they're told or if they know what the "correct" way to install them is, but definitely ask for them to be level or you're going to spend a good amount of time fixing them.

Im more worried about having to drill new holes if they don’t already line up and having the shell leak.

I would say you could just fill them with silicone, but I don't know how long that would hold. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. At that point I would make the dealer fix them.

Top tracks for the ‘20 are mounted in the same orientation as they are on the ‘17. They are slightly closer together though - measuring 42” on center.

LEER also sent it with the wrong windoors, I ordered vented. The place I purchased it from re-ordered, I’ll just have to make another trip over there to have them changed.

Sherpa mount in the 4 photos (sorry....newbie).

Perfect fit, nice and snugg. Not cheap $120 w/shipping & tax for the 4 mounts.

Many thanks for the Sherpa link.

Shame on Prinsu for not suggesting the mounting brackets for the Tacoma w/a Leer topper. Almost screwed up the tracks trying to force the brackets that came with it.

Happy to help. Glad it worked out. And agreed pretty shitty on prinsu for their mounts that are far from universal and not mentioned anywhere on their page as well as their lack of solution for this problem.

I'm not sure if someone has reached out to you with a solution yet but I figured I would chime in in case others are also running into the same issue. For Leer toppers / camper shells, there is a scenario where the tracks are to far apart (wide). If your topper has a track system with rails measuring wider than 41" to center, it would require the addition of PrinSu Leer Mounting Feet. Here is a link to them on our website - https://truckbrigade.com/products/prinsu-leer-mounting-feet
