Along those lines, I personally think it would be a good idea to require everyone to retake a drivers test every so many years. Idk if it would be possible or feasible, but checking every so often isn't a bad idea, especially with the older crowd...

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I'm not that old, and can use a refresher. I am pretty knowledgeable due to my curiosity and the fact I have taken 3 ticket reduction courses, and 4 insurance reduction courses. But the last one was 7-8 years ago. What about people who have never done that and have been driving 25-30 yrs. I just can't imagine.

That's probably true of most all cars and trucks.

I remember the 1973 oil crisis, and the speed limits max'd at 55 all over the country.

I'm usually in the slow lane doing 60-65mph, moving over 1-2 lanes when necessary for merging or slower traffic. The concept of "flow" is very important to me because I hate stop & go traffic. So I do my best to move in & out smoothly with minimal impact to anyone.

On most highways with two or more lanes going in one direction, the left lane is generally considered a passing lane and should not be occupied for longer than necessary to pass a slower vehicle. Yeah some roads have lots of tractors and only 2 lanes, and that's when an understood rule comes about where people will occupy the passing lane until a faster vehicle approaches from behind.

Dare I say, the *basic awareness of what is going on around in someone's immediate presence* has turned into total crap. Many people are letting their smartphones and fancy technologies turn them into complete morons, others don't realize someone is coming up behind them until the person behind is already furious, and others just don't realize the road does not belong to them alone-we all have to share it. Then there are those who are quite aware of what is going on around them and aware they are impacting other people and causing problems, but no fuck is given. People are just becoming more and more selfish, and the attitude of "me first, screw everyone else" is easy to find. But also it's very refreshing to see someone doing a kind or thoughtful thing and giving to others where they can... it's out there but it's getting harder and harder to find. Sorry I just had to get that out.

Why is it the good drivers who get angry at the bad drivers the ones who need help?

I sure hope you don't apply that same way of thinking to your daily routines and general outlook on things. If you do think the smart people following the law are to blame for being angry at the law breaking people who only think of themselves I would suggest you see a life coach and get to work fast.

Blaming others for your mistakes is a shitty way to try and live a prosperous life........also pretty much impossible
I agree and disagree. If you are holding up someone behind you, move over. If you are keeping up with the flow, than its fine imo. Some people forget that it is a passing lane. So move the F*ck over so I can pass you. :)
I can buy into this. Good advice.

Here in FL you can only use the left hand lane for passing. You can actually be ticketed for just cruising in the left lane.

It really grinds my gears when someone is just cruising (doing lower than the speed limit) in the left hand lane, and I have to pass some slackjaw in the right hand lane doing 10mph under the speed limit...

I usually keep out of the left hand lane unless Im passing, or its really early/late and no one is on the road way.

When I am at work I routinely use the left lane :D

There's a very simple solution to people like you, I'll pass you on the right and then test my brakes in front of you. I GUARANTEE you'll move out of that lane.

Nope, the douche is the one holding up everyone else by illegally driving (and staying) in the left hand lane. I'm just making sure my brakes work...

I think it is general etiquette, and usually state law, to only use the left hand most lane on highways as a passing lane. At least that is how my mandatory drivers ed class taught it. But common sense says the left lane is for the faster cars.

Of course, driving through city highways I keep up with traffic in the left lane about 80% of the time. The other 20% is when someone going even more over the speed limit than I comes up real fast, so I just hop on over to save myself the trouble of any incidents.

Of course it sucks when they come up on you going 85 in what should be a 55 or 60 in Atlanta highways, and then when you try to give the person you just passed some breathing room, the car behind you can't take it so as soon as a big enough gap opens, they jump on over and pass you on the right all pissed off.

It only sucks when you have people side by side on a 2 lane highway, and one will speed up and the other does the same, then one slows down and the other does the same, creating a wall. I rode behind a horse trailer doing that for 5 minutes, he was slowly passing semi-trucks and we would hit a gap and the car in front of me refused to pass the horse trailer guy on the right. I ended up finding a big enough gap and hopped over going 15 over to pass the guy.

One time I got in the left lane on a 3 lane highway just because a Tacoma occupied the middle lane and another was in the far right. It felt something like this.
