I’m sure they did! They should be crapping their pants over this one! Huge liability issue.

I’ll make out just fine. Put new brakes on last night and drove the truck this morning. I’m not in it for anything, I want Toyota to be aware in the event this isn’t just an isolated event.

Whether or not you are in it for anything, you sure as heck deserve something for it. The situation could have gone way worse. Thanks for following up with corporate so now they are aware. Glad your safe. Keep us posted, I am interested in hearing what Toyota has to say, if anything.

Being that's its a defect not ware and tear issue with brakes it would be covered under warranty .Reminds me of the days working on those 5ton trucks in the military .stupid ass drum brakes .Over adjusted the brakes once the back wheels were smoking lol .glad your ok . Toyota really needs to get with the program and use disk brakes all the way around .

One would think! The dealership on the other hand lives life by the deny deny deny policy. This is why corporate is now getting involved.

Like I said before, I'm only in this for awareness, I fixed it myself and am just looking out for others.

man, i'm watching carefully now. not sure there's any help in that tho. i am damn hard on my brakes. if being hard on these has anything to do with this then i'm probably high risk. thanks for reporting.

It wouldn't hurt to check them. Make sure you have replacement parts on hand first. The cylinders are prone to leakage, so grab those too.

I was in there checking for mud a few weeks back. I was pleasantly surprised to find them clear of mud. I believe that I saw the retention springs and cups. I thought about taking a pic, but stupidly didn't.

I only posted the before and after for a reason. There's no reason I can't post what happened. I'm only making others aware for their own safety.

I'm not like a lot of people on here that want Toyota to buy their truck back because of the 3rd brake light leak, or flat tire 3 days after driving off the lot. I want people to be aware.

    Oh snap.

I like the cut of your jib though - Toyota doesn't owe you a new house because of a defect. I do think they should make you whole on your costs of repair here, and maybe through in some free maintenance for a while or something. That seems fair. Somebody at that dealership needs a sit down talk though, and ideally that should come from Toyota, not from you.

Meh, it cost me less than $100 to fix, I do all of my own maintenance. They could give me one of those fancy TRD lanyard key chains and I’d be happy.

My only advice... careful what you post about mods, things you've changed, tried to change, done and reversed and all the like on this forum, any other forum, and any form of social media. If it gets to the point of a law suit, a lawyer and their team (from Toyota or such) may search the world wide web for anything connecting you to neglect, modification, malicious activity and such.

    Good luck to you.

Thanks, not pursuing any legal action since there isn’t anything to pursue. Truck is fixed and there’s no issue anymore. I just want the word to get out so if there are any others with this problem that don’t have the know-how or means to fix it themselves, hopefully Toyota will handle it.

Interesting, I’ve never looked at mine but Toyota did at my 90k service and said they were still good... wonder if they even looked. :tinfoilhat:

Not that anyone asked, but I personally find it refreshing that OP isn’t causing an uproar over this. These things happen to every one. Little guys and big, wealthy corporations just the same. Nobody was hurt, that’s the important part. It’s a pretty minor repair, that’s also great. People are so trigger happy to take advantage of successful people and sue these days and it makes society shittier than it needs to be. Not to mention makes the product more expensive as companies then have to cover the costs of these greed motivated lawsuits.

So what if Toyota tried to hide something. If that’s the case here hopefully we’ll find out and that will be pursued accordingly.

I’m presuming everyone here bought a Toyota. So those people voted with their dollars.

    The end.
