Hey friends. A few years back I sold my 04 Tacoma with nearly 300k miles for 7k. I ended up buying a 07 Tundra Limited and then sold that to make room for a 17 TRD Pro Tundra. I just bought my wife a 19 TRD Sport and I'm super stoked about it. Hoping y'all can help me out. I'm looking to do 2 things right off the bat.

I want to swap out the grille for the TRD Pro Grille. (I've seen some replicas being sold online) I can't really tell if there's a difference between the authentic $200+ ones or the sub $100 grilles I've seen on eBay. Can anyone chime in on that? I just want to make sure its a clean swap. I believe the newer tacos have that TSS sensor in the grille so I want to make sure I get the right one with all the necessary parts.

I don't plan to throw a lift on or anything like that on the taco, but I do want to slap on some nicer wheels and tires. I was thinking of the FX PRO 17x +0 FN Wheels. Can anyone chime in on if I will need to do any body mods to make these fit? Id love to slap on 33's but if I can't without rubbing or having to do a BMC than I'll run a smaller tire.

Those are the only two mods I plan on doing for now. I know this thing is going to be crazy modded in a year but I have to pace myself. I've got my Tundra pretty dialed in and I don't have much left to tinker with except a blower (which I'll probably never do).

Thanks guys and girls! Hope to run into you guys some day. JR

Here's my Tundra and the Fam's new Taco

    Matching trucks, love it.

Check out the for sale thread about the grills, he sells great ones for the different models

And the FN wheels are awesome. I ran them. 265/70R17 is the biggest you can run without a CMC

FUNDRA! Great on both. Plenty of experience on grilles here, someone will chime in soon.

Hey thanks for the feedback. I got a buddy who can do the CMC for me for a decent amount. I'll try and read up on what I can run with just the TRD SPORT susp w/ a CMC. Im most likely gonna do SCS since he can get those at a discounted rate or the FN wheels. I really love the concavity of the FN's

Read the 255/85 thread, lots are getting 255/85/16’s in the stock ORs without any chops or dremel work YMMV. Skinnies aren’t for everyone though.

    Welcome back to TW!

You will be lucky to find the OE Pro grille for less than $350. I got both the faux grille and OE sensor cover for $150 —free shipping and no tax. There are plenty of sellers online. Just run a google search. Getting the OE sensor cover to fit the China made grille took some work, but I haven’t had any issues.

I got a TRDOR and didn’t want to screw with the suspension either, so after much searching I ended getting TRD SEMA replicas and 265/79-17 General Grabber ATX tires. I looked into the FN Fx wheels, but they only came in 17x9, which is too wide for my liking. The replicas are 17x7 and have +0mm offset, which gives them a bit more “deep dish” look, and push the wheels and tires 1 inch outward. I got both wheels and tires from Discount Tire. I get no rubbing 99% of the time —only a little when I’m aired down on the trail at full articulation.

    I’m happy with the results.

    Good luck!

Just an update on some new mods and upcoming. After finishing the Tundra, I seriously was having mod withdrawals lol.

    Removed
    bedside decals
    Chrome emblems on tailgate
    Chrome Tacoma badges on doors
Front plate and bracket-- placed color-matched plastic screw plugs in the holes

    Lighting
    Complete LED interior swap
LED Fogs ( I may swap to RIGID one day)
    LED Reverse
    LED Lic. plate lights
Tacoma Beast black housing projector headlights

    Exterior misc
    OEM Pro Grille
    RWB flag tailgate insert
TRD Sport badge under side mirrors
proper facing matte black decals on fenders (may remove once I put on the door badge to avoid a cluttered look)
Purchased bedside and hood graphics, but will be a game-time decision of I put them on.

    Wheels
5x FN FX Pro Wheels wrapped w/ 285/75/17 BFG Ko2's
decided to go with the FJ caps

    Suspension & Clearance
    Bilstein 5100's up front
Add a leaf in the back
    Cab Mount Chop

That's it for now. My CMC and suspension parts are scheduled to go on next weekend. I slapped on the wheels for a quick test fit. That lower valance is gonna need a serious chop or even removal. I don't even really know what it's for. I've read it's for "improved gas mileage"....sure

I'm not surprised that the headlights come with stock halogen bulbs, but what kinda pissed me off is that it comes with h7 bulbs that are housing specific. Pretty bummed that I will have to limit my LED options since I can't properly fit an LED bulb that includes the heat fan component. I've seen SGNL and VLED selling some so I'll look into those. They do look pretty rad tho. I'm sure tons of guys have em on and have found solutions to fitting a proper LED in there. I'll have to dig up some threads, but if you know at the top of your head what works and performs the best please reach out.

I'll update with pics once she's all done =)

@Aldo98229 how are you liking you General Grabber ATx tires? Are yours SL load range? How's the noise level on road?

What I like about the Tacoma is how nimble it feels vs full size trucks... I bet you love the power on your tundra and how agile your taco feels..
