About 6'1 and I find the backseat very tight. I have longer legs and a shorter torso so legroom is important to me. Wife is 5'11 (also long legs, shorter torso) and we have both a large convertible carseat and an infant carseat at the moment so a Taco is a no go for us unfortunately. Driven a 2nd gen extensively and test driven 3rd gens multiple times trying to convince myself I could make it work and live with it, but ultimately decided against it and went with a 4runner.

Heh. I went from a K04 GTI to a Mustang GT to the Tacoma. Talk about disappointment in performance.

I'm a lifelong VW fan, but what made me give up the GTI was my wife owning another, older VW and becoming tired of working on two of them. The VW scene kind of ruined it for me, but that's a simplistic explanation of what all happened. If you were heavy into the local VW scene in the DMV you might know the story.

Anyway, the rear seats on the double cab are worthless in my opinion. I'm 6'4" and there's no way a person could sit behind me. Even on the other side with the front seat slid forward the room is negligible. When I bought the truck some of my decision making was based off owning a 2005 Frontier crew cab long bed. And now I'm slowly building a platform to replace the seats back there. Even though I do like the Tacoma, if I had been a much more informed buyer, I would have ended up with a much different Tacoma.

Coming from a passat, and having test drove a similar accord before buying the passat, the legroom in a midsized sedan far exceeds my tacoma. My passat had more rear legroom then any non full sized truck/SUV I've been ever been in.

In reality, for the money, there is no better, more practical car then a passat or an accord. You can get a well equipped passat/accord for $25k, loaded for about $30k, you can fit an amazing amount of stuff in them with rear seats down, they get great mileage and have a huge back seat.

I had to let my Gen 1 manual taco go when my son was born, and I looooved that truck. From there I had a crew cab dodge, ford, then titan,... after tiring of feeding them gas, I had a TDI passat, and a gas passat. Wanting to get back into a tacoma and a Manual, I bought the tacoma knowing its smaller. The back seats are doable, I have two teens, one 5"10, daughter is 5'4, they fit fine in taco, but had much more room in Passat, but at their age, I wasn't as concerned as when I needed room for car seats and all the other junk small kids require. I would say that a tonneau or cap is nearly a requirement if you plan to take family anywhere. I have the hard lomax tonneau, and that with a bed mat create a perfect giant locking trunk, and with limited interior space that is a must.

My Tacoma is designated a daily work truck. Mostly by myself. Im 5’9” and a family of four it works for short trips. One front facing child seat and teenager in the back is only good for short trips. The back seat sucks. Luckily for me longer weekend road trips that don’t require 4x4 I have a Lexus LS460. There’s days that I rather just drive that instead of the Tacoma. If I needed more room like taking my nieces with my family I’ll take my wifes 7 passenger Model X. The Tacoma works for me because I have options. Interior room is one of the Tacoma weaknesses but I still love it.

I have had my brother in the back and he is about 5'10" same as me had he survived just fine on a trip that was an hour each way. I would say the room in the back is not overly roomy but remember this is not a full size truck. It's no worse than a compact car. I'd say that for some the rear seat backs more upright non adjustable position could be a problem.
Compared to my dad's 2011 Access cab the back seat in my 2020 are a lot more comfortable. You seriously can't put adults or even teens in the back of the access cab....

I fit very well in the front seats, but I have problems with the back seats. I am 6'4" so my head hits the ceiling and my knees are jammed into the back of one of the front seats.

I'm sure I would do even worse in an access cab. A while back I visited a friend and his boyfriend, who has an extended-cab Colorado. We all piled into his truck to go to Chipotle, and I volunteered to take the back seat. I am quite a bit taller than either of them, so I had to sit kind of sideways on one of the back jump seats with my head hunched down so I wasn't hitting the ceiling over every bump. It was actually not too bad, but it was a relatively short drive through urban traffic. I don't think I'd want to sit back there for a highway trip!

    Chipotle was good, too.

It’s been so long since I stepped into a sedan or car period I had no idea.

I have 2 girls in boosters and we make long trips. I do have a cap to store all the bags etc. we do good with the space. Obviously not 1st class feels but more comfortable than a coach flight
