Spring rate should be selected based on truck weight. Preload has zero effect on spring rate, unless you need so much preload you are getting could bind (or have bought non-linear springs for some reason).

650 is goo for bumper and/or armor, 700 is reserved for the fattest tacos- bumper, winch, armor. But as the link mentions, that's with offroad shocks.

Shock valving is where your ride comfort comes from, and that's a black art. However, nobody ever got fired for buying kings from @Downsouth Motorsports divorced, perhaps:)

I'm running icons with 650# springs, and toying with Kings, need to ride in a truck that has them and really compare.

Okay I might be missing something here if spring rate is what holds up the truck my stock 2016 comes stock with 717 lb Springs ,and without any bumper or winch why would I want to drop down to a 650lb spring and add bumper/ winch
Or am I such an idiot I'm missing something here

Spring length effects available travel, but not spring rate.

The 2" limit on preload is to avoid coil bind, a longer spring won't fix that. The solution is a heavier spring.

That said, heavier springs don't ride as soft as lighter one. It sounds like you're approaching a trade-off point of ride to lift.

I've never seen a number on the OEM spring rate before, just the recommended springs for aftermarket suspension.

You could aways get a front axle weight on the truck, and compare to second gen front axle weight (which is what all our recommendations are based on). I wouldn't be surprised if the 3rd gen was 200# heavier in the front.

I'd also call DSMS or Wheels, they will have a good recommendation.

You do not need cdcs, if you have an extra 300$ they are nice... I don't have them, also, you can always add them later during a rebuild.

For the rear: Dakar pack, and a 2" shock of off he same brand as the front. If you're super heavy maybe an AlPro Expo pack.

    Don't get a shackle flip.

Consider a shock relocate if you want more flex and don't mind some welding on the frame (or paying one of us for some welding).
