Agree. Just get rid of the POS and purchase a better quality vehicle. Sounds like what you are experiencing is somewhat common for this engine and not something the automaker is going to repair.

    Could be worse......

Your dad could have bought a 2nd Gen Tacoma :anonymous:

    Oil consumption: Max. 1.0 L per 1000 km (1.1 qt./600 miles, 0.9 lmp. qt./600 miles)

But seriously. Kia has had this issue for awhile.

BTW, You'd be surprised at what the "maximum allowable" consumption is on most engines.

Sorry to hear you and your Dad are going through this.

Others are right; the tech and service writer are going by what Kia dictates (was same for Hyundai). One thing you can do is request a consumption test (an official dealer one). You'll have to keep doing them and pray it gets worse or you literally throw a rod from lack of oil during one of the consumption tests.

You can also request the dealer apply for a goodwill engine replacement. Kia may be amendable to split some of the cost of a long block or total replacement. Given they're still giving Theta II engines away, theyay not be so amendable these days.

You can also try a different dealer. You'll have to go through the same song and dance. Hope they actually submit an authorization and try. Very likely it'll get denied but you will have to keep trying. It's time and money though. Check out Kia forums or similar for any experience others may have. Once in a while you'll get an actual Kia master tech who can give you some pointers.

Don't buy Hyundai/Kia no matter how appealing they may be.

in todays world, that's exactly what folks do. Search the internet and hope they find honest info. Sucks that you have to deal with this, and researching may have not done a dam thing, but to call the person a piece of shit isn't going to help.

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
I spent several years as a Mitsubishi tech in the 90's and 2000's and one of them also had a Hyundai shop. 1 quart per 1000 miles was considered acceptable by them both. I don't agree that it is but that was their standard.
