I'm that guy. It's a problem with so many of them. I ended up getting out of the MGM with my dealership's help and was going to get into an '18 Cement one. Same issues on grille surround and this time there was mottling on the right fender. We looked at an '18 Silver and same problems. They helped me out with an '19 Barcelona Red and, you guessed it, there is still mottling on the grille surround and some faint mottling on the fenders. It's not as bad and something I could live with but it definitely shows up under the right angle of sun and under led lights in grocery/shopping lots. Corporate was also very helpful and took care of me.

See the tiger striping or splotchiness? It gets worse under other lighting.

Here's another example on a Honda Accord. Notice the severe tiger stripes where the gun went back and forth. Silver paints are most susceptible to mottling but I've seen it on a bunch of Tacomas with different colors.

Not to shit in your cereal but my answer is yes. Anyone that knows what they are looking at when you go to trade it in will catch the repaint. It not being on the carfax could be looked at as an unreported accident. When i sold cars at my dads lot we would hold back on a trade that had been repainted because 95% of the time we kept them to resell. Its hard to explain a total repaint to a customer youre trying to sell a used car to. Most would think youre lying about it not being in an accident. This is just my experience.

I was at dealer today, bright sunny day. Every metallic paint truck had some sort of mottling/tiger stripping/thin/transparent paint. Solid color looked ok. So, I think your going to have a tough time finding one that doesn't, unless you go white, or quicksand was ok. Periwinkle (CB) looked ok, but I wouldn't be caught dead in that color.
My feeling is Toyota is pushing these trucks out just to fast, for quality Control of their product.

I do see what you guys are talking about now. I had never heard the term "mottling" before though. I had a 2012 Ingot Silver F150 that was horrible. I didn't even really see it much except in the right light.

I would definitely be talking to my dealer, sales manager, general manager, whoever. be as NICE as possible and explain all your concerns and see if they would be willing to trade you into another color truck. but I don't think you are in a position for any legal recourse if they were to refuse. remember, kindness kills...
