    update: snow performance

Just drove up to Schweitzer in the snow. Have the OV tune and flooring in it 4 hi did not cause any issues or even the traction control light to come on. Amazing grip in the snow. Even in 2WD. Great in rain too. Tried driving thru tire ruts with water in them and hardly noticed anything different. Highly recommend.

Made in the same factory as at3w, sumitomo, thats why they share some similarities. Les schwab had been working for quite a while on a tire they could call their own to replace the toyo at (which was never very good, in my opinion).

And it is true, the company will absolutely take care of their customers, but also a lot of that price goes into taking care of their employees too. Les was under mind that taking care of people makes them happier and work harder, which reflects in the way customers are taken care of. But also, all stores donate and give, in my experience, pretty generously in their community. So these things combined do add a little bit, but it all really comes back, and I as being able to provide for my family with that, appreciate the company, and the customers. So thanks for purchasing.

Now thats out of the way, how have they been, I bought tires before the open range were released, and now I want to put a 295/70-17 to replace the back country AT I have, can't decide between the open range, or say the heck with it and go for the maxxis razr MT, I've heard they're quiet, and man do they look aggressive.

    Thread revived.. again.

I just had a ReadyLift 69-5212 (3/2 leveling kit) plus a set of these Mazama (Les Schwann) OpenRange tires, 285/65R16, installed today on my 2020 DC TRDOR 4x4.

I opted to keep the the original 16” wheels. These 33’s fit fine under that level kit with VERY minor rubbing on the UCA (only on fully locked turn). I MIGHT install a set of 1.5” wheel spacers, but honestly I don’t see this very minor UCA interference a problem, considering it’s hard to “make” it interfere. The UCA’s are rounded steel and not really going to damage anything by lightly touching the tires on steering lock.

Anything to add to the Mazama tires/reviews fellas?
How are they holding up, to your expectations?

I’ve had excellent luck with them so far. I have almost 2k on them and they perform well in all conditions.

I took the truck up snow-wheeling and was actually super impressed with these tires. Far as I can tell there are only two drawbacks. 1. They do produce a bit of “hum” at certain times while highway driving. And 2. They have straight kicked my fuel mileage right in the nuts. But really who are we kidding? The tacos get crap mileage anyway. These are heavy tires though and it’s been noticeable.

As for price I’d suggest negotiating. These tires are exclusive to Les Schwab and that place is notoriously high priced! Their service is second to none though but I found if you do a little negotiating they will come down a bit to make the tires more affordable. At least that has been my experience.

    My truck is New-To-Me, Jan 4, 2021.

    I stepped up from the OEM/stock 16" wheels/265/70R16 tires, to 17" 5th gen T4R Snowflakes.
The tires I went with were 265/70R17-115T Back Country A/T.
Close enough to the same height to retain MPH.
I didn't buy the truck to save gas mileage, but I'll complain like most!!

I had a set installed Monday.
TPMS, Mount, Balance = $1,004.92 OTD

    First impressions: = Good

    Tires are under the fenders.
    Pretty aggressive tread.
    Smooth ride on highway.
    Absorbs road abnormalities well.

    No negatives at this time.

Working great for me. In 4 hi going up the hill skiing with the OV Tune and flooring it, I can't seem to get them to slip. Really nice in the ruts filled with rain. Track well in the deep parts of the ruts. I am impressed and highly recommend.

Do you have any rubbing or issues with this tire size?

[IMG] I run the les schwab / Mazama open ranges and I really like them.

    I have them on my 21 TRD Off-road in a 265/75/16 E, on my 19 4runner in a 285/70/17 (33-ish) E, and I HAD them on my old Tacoma in a 245/75/16 passenger rated.

before I went with these I was a duratrac guy. Nothing wrong with duratracs, however when I went to les Schwab a while back they didn’t have them in stock and the guy talked me into the open ranges.

I was really impressed with them, both off road and in snow they really shine. And on highway they are nice and quiet and ride really smooth.

that’s why I’ve been using them for the last 3+ years on my vehicles.

Update, been awhile since I have posted. I have a little over 26,000 miles on the tires now. I am still pleased with their performance in a variety of terrain. Anything from pavement, mostly, to mud, snow, ice and rocky dirt roads they have done very well. I do not have a tread gauge, but I think as the quarter shows they are holding up well. They have been rotated every 4,000 miles by either me or Les Schwab. Have kept them at 36lbs. pressure cold. Would definitely buy again.

The TACO isn't ready for tires yet, but the jeep is. Looking at getting them this week.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I have done some research on these tires and can not find any specifications on tire weight?? I am going to replace my Falken WP 265/75/16 SL later this year 44lbs and considering these tires or Nitto RG. Does anybody have information on how much these tire weight??? in 265/75/16 SL / C load?

No I don't. I have 265/75/16 C load and have not noticed much of a decrease in fuel milage. So I'm thinking not much heavier than stock.

I am pretty sure they will be the exact same as the Falken WP AT3W’s. Since the are they same tire just put into a different mold.

I live in Yakima, not too far from you, and agree with Les Schwab. They are the only tire shop I've used for over 20 years. Their service cannot be beat. I once blew out a tire at the corner of Highway 24 and Highway 24 (out in the middle of nowhere - due east of Yakima). I had someone help me get the stupid, fake, spare on but you can't drive over 50 mph and those are 2 lane highways at 55+ mph and I needed to get all the way to Spokane. I called Les Schwab in Othello, knowing there was no way I could make it there before they closed at 6 pm. Their manager agreed to stay late on a Friday night to replace my blown out tire so I could safely get to Spokane. THAT is the type of service you pay for when things cost a little bit more. And I can pop in at any time and they will check whatever my issue is. They also offer free roadside service if you get a flat, etc. Well worth any tiny increase in cost. And I'll finish by saying I spent the MOST money ever for truck tires at Costco. Never again. They didn't even have the tools to get the lug nuts off my F350.

And I'll add that I just put a new set of these on my Ram 3500 4 x 4 today. With everything, it was $1500 out the door (265/70r/17). But I know I'm good for years now. And I'm pretty confident these tires will allow me to continue getting hay throughout winter snow without any issues - something that is not true for all all-terrain tires IME.

I just bought a set of that same tire today. The employee helping me said exactly what you said about this tire being a replacement for the Toyo, which he said Les Schwab participated in the design of, because they didn't think their options for tires were the best tires that could be made.

I had a set of Firestone Open Range prior. They had probably 70-80%+ of tread still left on them with only a few thousand miles. A belt broke and Firestone would not replace it. :( Even when I offered to put a whole new set of tires ($1200+ out the door), they wouldn't even pay to replace the defective one. So I said I'll go where I know they will replace any defects - Les Schwab - and walked out the door.

That said, it was $1500 out the door at Les Schwab, with added siping, etc. Still, I know I'm set for years, including any possible issues I may have with the tires, unlike Firestone.

Why are you not replacing your Falkens with more Falkens considering these tires and the widepeaks are very similar? Just curious?

I just bought a set of these “used”. Guy bought them a month ago for $1,100 and ran them 400 miles before selling his truck and putting the original tires back on. Paid $550 so figured I did alright. Probably will run my original tires until fall because they still have some life left but I’d really like to mount these up for summer time off-roading.
