It's not just the imports. I had the same happen to my vette. I was TAD (temp assigned duty) for a week and this bird crapped on the center of my hood. I don't know what it at but it went through the clearcoat. After that I made sure I waxed it and cover it anytime I was going to be gone for a while. As far as the Taco if I see bird poop I wash it off. Even if just that one spot.

I try to clean it off ASAP usually with a paper towel and some soapy water so I can just thro it away. I have a cover from my gen 1 no body wanted to buy so I stretch it over my new gen 2 like now while I'm away on vaca I guess it would be caked with sh-t when I get home if I didn't. There must be a special clear coat eating acid in bird sh-t.

I work at a shipyard on the great lakes. There's a salt mine and sand pile across the river from me. The gulls are a constant PITA. So far the newest version of Meguire's wax has done me well.
I wash once a week. I wax as often as possible. Twice a month in summer and whenever there's an indian summer during winter.
    So far, so good.
The sand is hell on the windsheild. The salt is hell all around. I need a new job:)

Hoplophobes are a strange breed. They'd be funny, if they weren't such a PITA. Too bad they aren't as easy to bury as varmints;)

I agree when it comes bird shit, it doesn't matter what make if you don't clean it off. But I never had paint issues (chipping especially) on any of the Fords I've owned. It wasn't until I started buying imports (Toyota and Nissan) that I realized how much better the paint is on domestics.
