I am going with the URD Mass Air Flow Fuel & Timing Calibrator as I am burning rich at WOT

    That should cure my pinging.

So while I wait on the 7th injector to come in I’ve been thinking of ways to reduce the Ping.

I already have 2 step iridium plugs gapped to factory spec .043.

I’ve been thinking of ditching the K&N and going with something with a little less flow to try and prevent leaning out. Probably won’t help considering the pinging is mostly a timing issue but wouldn’t hurt to try.

I’ve also been thinking of adding octane booster to my premium gas to see if that helps.

    Any suggestions?

Like @boostedka said, you can eliminate the ping with the AIC/T calibrator which is the controller for the 7th injector kit. Don’t confuse this with the FTC that comes with the other URD kit which upgrades all 6 injectors and requires tuning.

You can essentially achieve the same thing with the 7th injector or meth. The only thing is with a meth kit you likely won’t be able to tune timing. So if it still pings with meth then you will still need some kind of timing calibrator.

The 7th injector AIC/T may require tuning, or may not. The preloaded tune is good for some trucks but others require tuning. Mine required tuning. I still pinged after the initial install with preloaded maps, but was able to tune it out.

Honestly I’ve found that you can easily drive around the ping. Just don’t lug it below 2500-3k rpm. Shouldnt ping for the most part. I have a 5 speed though.

For example if I want to pass a car on the interstate and I’m cruising in 5th gear at ~2500 rpm, I’ll drop a gear or 2 and accelerate rather than give it more throttle in 5th. I know it’ll probably ping if I lug it in 5th. Same for approaching an incline.

I’m automatic. So that won’t work for me. Hopefully the 7th injector kit will do it for me. I’m really hoping that I won’t need to tune either. Gadget told me it’s good for 99% of trucks so we’ll see.

The meth injection works really well. Timing could maybe be increased with meth injection.

This is true for any boosted car. In 5th gear the load is high and so much time for stuff to go wrong. Low rpm boosting in 5th gear is never a good idea.

You mean going highway speeds, probably in overdrive then down shifting to 2?

Well obviously you down shift via OD button. The trans will not downshift till your at a safe speed anyways.

@kigmob where did you wire your PLX to for Power? The instructions say it’s best to wire to the ignition switch but I have no idea what I’m doing.

And my kit says it can take the place of the 02 sensor as well. It would be nice if the wideband could just hook right up to the stock bung. But it looks too big.

    EDIT: wording

    So new issue.

When I had stock plugs and ran around for a bit I had no ping at all.

Then I go to iridium 2steps colder and I ping everywhere. Im pinging in second gear when my RPMs get around 2k plus.

I removed the K&N filter, cleaned MAF, made sure hoses were tight, gapped new sparks to ~.032 and let the ECU rest. Nothing helps.....

I’m worried that since I’m pinging so early im such a low gear that I have a bigger issue. Truck did not ping before S/C or before IK22s....

    Which would be better?

URD Additional Injector Controller / Timing Calibrator
    or
URD Mass Air Flow Fuel & Timing Calibrator?

Both will help with my pinging, but what can a MAF adjustment do for me?

Try going back to a quality plug in the proper heat range, run premium and don't lug those 285's. Ping = death to engines.

No, just like the OP, my ping AND my rise in engine temps came after the S/C.

I believe I used an add a circuit and tapped it into one of the circuits in the fuse panel at the bottom left of my steering wheel. I made sure it was tied to the ign. I can go look and let you know for sure.

Did you originally run the ik22s at the stock gap? Also if you re gapped them how did you do it? I believe I heard if you crap up the plug tip it can create a hot spot and cause pre ignition (knock). I’ve ran ik22s for years and never had issues. If you don’t ping with the stock plugs then keep them in for now.

You already run meth right? So you shouldn’t need additional fueling if your AFRs are good in boost. The maf adjustment allow you to tune for larger primary injectors. The additional injector controller allows you to control a 7th injector. Sounds like you just need to timing calibration part of these units. Call URD and see if they have something that can suit your needs.
