Or drive over to discount tire, they will rotate them for free no matter where you bought them.

I bought my Nitto Ridgegrapplers (33s) at Discount Tire.
They will rotate them for free when needed. Why go to the dealer with aftermarket tires?

$86.88 for a job that is already on the lift. And for a job that was going to be free until they saw aftermarket sized tires! Is this a modification tax?

I am glad that I have the ability to do my own work. Then I can do other things like inspect the brakes and suspension. And drop and lubricate the spare tire mechanism. And check my spare tire pressure. It was at 22psi, I just did my winter swap last week.

The dealer is being unreasonable in charging extra for BFG ATs. Unless you suggest the OP should stick with the crappy GY Adventures when the factory set wears out?

Wonder what excuses that dealer would come up with if the Tacoma had port-installed BFG AT or GY Duratrac tires?

Just to be clear, he was asking if you want to pay $86 to rotate the wheels?

$86 to unbolt and bolt 4 wheels. The center caps were even off and the lug adapter in the truck. No special operations needed. The truck came with GY Duratracs but I sold them right away.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
What is their labor rate, because I am guessing that they are charging you half an hour of labor, which is about how long it takes to do a rotation with Jack stands, not a lift like they are using…

Ok thanks. I’m really not surprised. Inflation is runaway and I expect free services at Discount Tire to stop unless you are a verified customer. Hasn’t happened yet, but I will not be shocked if it does.

That's 20ish lbs per wheel added. Trucks are already heavy to begin with and a PITA for the tire shops.

This wasn't so much "pay us", it was "We don't want to deal with this, but will if you make it worth it"

Also the added weight might bust the OSHA ceiling for safety.

This is a thing that actually happens. Doesn’t sound like the case for him, but iirc when you overtorque the lug nuts they can end up swelling, making it much more difficult to remove. Most often happens with cheap aftermarket ones but I’ve heard of it happening to OEMs as well.

In the case of the factory Toyota lug nuts, they are steel and then covered with a thin tin or stainless ( not sure which ) layer that bulges over time. It makes the lug stick in the socket. Eventually the over cover can fall off completely making for a very odd sized lug that no socket fits on properly.

Aftermarket lugs. I torqued them last time and came right off this time.
