Materal was pretty cheap. Maybe $200 (frame mounts were CNC cut, tow points 1"x2", 2x3 steel tube, 1.75" DOM tube, and some smaller stuff) I do some side work at a shop so we had everything there and everything was at cost.

Thanks man, kinda what what I was expecting. I’ll never fully understand why a cbi bumper with a swing out cost $1500

I didn't want anything fancy or heavy so I just stuck with making a tube rear bumper.

Uhhhh, yeah plus a decent amount of material, and lots of labor depending on bumper style.
I see a lot of it is bent now so takes away a lot of welding and grinding, but still a high labor part.

You've included that I see. But as a general comment to this thread, I think a lot of people underestimate how much work it is to make the expensive fancy bumpers.

I would pay for one unless it was a simple piece of tube. Been there done that, not worth my time lol.

Plus its kind of a risky business really since its such a niche market. Could be doing fine one month, and bankrupt the next. Thankfully the overlanding trend has been keeping things going lately, but look how many Toyota centered armor/4x4 parts companies have either bit the dust or been bought out in the last two years. I mean, even Wheelers isn't its own thing anymore.

I made a custom rear bumper for my step side. It’s not your typical piece but it works. It was hit at a Wal-Mart a few years ago so it’s not perfect.
    Pics to follow.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    ^This^

And guys that know how to weld worth a shit demand good pay... and it takes a while (hourly wages) to run all the welds it takes to fab a plate bumper.

I doubt any of the offroad bumper companies sre using automated welders... so you're paying a guy (a few hours wage) to zap the plate together.

And then another guy (at probably a lower rate) a few (at least a couple) hours to grind it all and make it look purdy.

I used a lot of words to say... a bumper takes a bunch of time to fabricate and dudes gotta get paid... lol
