    Hey all,
First of all, I want to thank you guys for helping make a decision in trading in my TRD OR for what I wanted which was a fully loaded TRD Sport a few months back.

Now, I’ve got a dilemma with leaving for a trip that could quite possibly be a year long. Do I let my Taco sit in the garage or try and sell it and start over when I get back?

    Option #1:
If it sits, my wife will start it up and drive it around once a month to keep things in working order.
(Any suggestions on long term storage maintenance?)

    Option #2:
Try and sell it within a month and start over with a 2019 when I get back?

    Thanks for your guys help!

If you can find out how long the trip actually will be i would off load it and save the money and get what you want when you get back. What kind of trip is it? Possible deployment?

I would leave it sit, no use on taking a loss on it and I doubt the 2019s are going to be much different.

Any suggestions on oil/fuel sitting for long periods of time? And cold temps in the winter.
Only reason I ask because my wife’s afraid to drive my truck so I know she’ll “drive” it but it’ll probably be under 10 miles a month.

The only suggestion I would have for that question would be run the fuel tank as low as possible and then fill it with non ethanol gas
As long as your wife starts your truck once a week and let it idle for say 5-10 minutes you’ll be fine .

Interior LEDs, all weather mats, TRD performance CAI, trifold hard tonneau cover, predator pro step, accessory interior/exterior illumination package. Kicker tweeters, Kicker speakers.
Just a fair warning, if you can store it inside, that would be preferable. There are many instances where rodents, specifically rats or squirrels will seek out vehicles as a harborage and possibly chew on wiring and other items which may be a nightmare to resolve. This has happened to me and I’ve known of others that have had this happen to them.

Oil will be fine. So will everything else, as long as she starts it for a several minutes a week and drives it a few miles a month. Also, put a bottle of gas stabilizer in the tank before you leave and you will be good to go for a year.

Battery tender and wife letting it run for a bit from time to time as well as drive it a little here in there is good enough!

If you have or purchase the 12volt solutions remote start with smart add on module, you can start it and let it run so long you have internet or cellular signal from anywhere in the world using your smart phone! Message me if interested!

Since your in WA, you'll be letting go of the sales tax credit if you sell it now and buy another one later. That right there will put you back at least 2600 and that's just money to the government, basically a pointless loss.

    keep it.

get a CTEK - https://smartercharger.com/battery-chargers/#CTEK Multi US 4.3 I own two of these and they are great!

make sure your bride lets it run long enough to get it up to full operating temperature and ensure she checks tire pressure before driving. Maybe bump tire pressure UP some before you leave, they will leak down over time and the added pressure will help with flat spotting.

there are fuel system treatments for long term storage but I don't have any firsthand experience with them.

We have a 2014 VW Touareg that we only use(d) for longer trips (until we got the Taco), it has 18,000mi on it. Sits more than it sees the road, the CTEK keeps the battery ready to go.

You don’t really think anyone here is gonna say sell it do you?

Not being as much as a fanboy as half of the people here, my thoughts are why sell it and lose a few grand in the process between that and buying another one. Letting it sit won’t hurt. If the wife is gonna take it out every so often my advice is for her to drive it for about 30 min or more if so. Other wise it’s just more strain on the battery without letting it get the proper charge it needs. If she can’t I would recommend getting a better tender and having her hook it up after she drives whiles it’s sitting. I wouldn’t worry too much about the oil but if you are then about half way into your trip, have her take it to get the oil changed.

It's a Sport and the one you wanted. Keep it... low mileage Taco is a good thing. Next year when you get back its going to feel like a new truck all over again. win win...

Put Shell gas in it for the long wait for your return. Show your wife how to engage the 4x4 system so she can do that a few times while you're gone. Get home and change all the fluids and go wheeling.

If it's paid for, keep it and have the wife drive it every 2-4 weeks.

If you're making payments on it, then sell it.

I’d keep it. Tacoma’s always maintain value plus don’t let the government get more money just from taxes and registration. That right there is a guaranteed loss of a couple grand

Just remember, Tacos may be getting a bit more expensive due to the tariffs. I read a post where the suggestion was that steel would be going up, so then the increase will be passed along to us.
I'd just keep it. Wouldn't fill the tires with air. They are mostly all filled with nitrogen now.
I'd keep it. You never know if something happens to your wife's car and she might need yours as a backup. IMO

Deployed several times and have never sold a car prior to leaving. Like others have said, battery tender, fuel stabilizer and start/drive around for 10-15 mins every couple of weeks (driving so tires don't develop flat spots.) Also put some moth balls and dryer sheets in various locations inside the truck (moth balls will deter rodents and the dryer sheets will off set the smell.)

Since you have someone who can start it and drive it a little, I'd keep it. I've watched vehicles for friends who were on long deployments, started their car/bike once a week, drove em around the 'hood for a few min, vehicles were GTG when they got back.
