Let your wife pick the car she wants. Two weeks ago, my fiance bought a 2012 Mini Cooper S (i'm actually making the majority of the payments), and as much as I wanted her to get the Honda Fit or Hyundai Veloster, she's happy with her choice.

So you wouldn't "let" her choose an Outback, but your ok with a Honda Ridgeline? I could care less what my wife wants to drive. Unless I feel its incredibly unsafe, otherwise its her choice.

This is the surest path to divorce in this entire thread. Even the "grow a pair" guy gives better advice on marriage than this.

Agree together, or develop an understanding where some decisions are just naturally made by you because "you're the tool/car/garage guy."

Do NOT set up decision ambush traps, saving up a scoresheet of bad decisions to bait your wife with later when you need to score points in an argument.

It's a partnership, not a 30 year running debate tournament. And if you treat it that way - it sure as hell won't last anywhere near that long.

My wife picked out her new car and I think she made a good choice. 2012 Volvo S60 T5.
It's a great car, we love it! A 5 cylinder 2.5L turbo with 250HP automatic with slap shift option and it will not let go of the road (we have done some wild things (don't ask, we're not tellin) & not even a squeal from the tires). Rated 30 mpg Hwy (we haven't driven it enough to get actual, but the computer says we're averaging 28.8 mpg with 60% Hwy/40% City), very comfortable (heated leather seats) and plenty of get up & go (0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds).
    And it looks good too.

    Lots.
If I get married, my wife will be allowed to pick her own car, but hell if there is ever a hybrid in my driveway.

    ^^^This is absolute truth...

Op me and my better half have been together for 19 years. Her first new vehicle was a GMC Yukon XL bought in 03. It was the first time we could afford a new car. It was expensive but we got our moneys worth. It's been reliable, dependable, and we raised 3 kids on it. Took us on vacations, fishing trips, camping, ect... Anyways, I always choose "my" cars but we both have to agree on hers. I simply remind her that it is me that will be doing all the maintenance on whatever we choose after warranties and such run out.. It's only fair IMO that this has to have heavy consideration though doesn't have to be the final factor. Anyways as far as I'm concerned reliability is my foremost concern when making a new purchase. Just recently bought her a new WRX to replace her Yukon (which we still have but has been retired and only to be used for camping and fishing trips. Just can't sell the ol'girl...). After talking it through Subarus' reputation for reliabilty sold her on it plus AWD was a must for her since her Yukon had it and she loved. We agreed on it then 4 months later I placed an order on my Tacoma.:D I actually traded my 2011 5.0 Mustang for her car but I had already made up my mind I had to have a truck.. Communication is key lolz..

The GMC Terrains are pretty nice & well built. Let her pick. Worst case, you lose a little resale value. My wife was a die-hard "buy American" fan. I let her pick out her last vehicle, a Chrysler minivan. I suggested a Sienna or Odyssey, but the Chrysler was quite nice & had less miles for the same money. 2 years later, she owns an FJ...
