Be careful about only doing a partial build. A pretty common thing that pops up for people in the LT threads is dumping 10k+ into the front end and wondering why their truck is bucking all over the place. It's typically because they pushed off doing the rear. With crawlers you can get away with doing stuff in stages, but with long travel you really kind of have to dive in to get a good setup. It sounds like you're working under some pretty ideal circumstances though, so have fun building!

Your on the right track if your just gettiong started..Like somebody said lots of aftermarket parts are crap compared to what your throwing away. Especially in the brutal sun. I had those light and they got faded fast. For the price though you can get some every few years. If you are sixteen years old bre carefull if it rains. Our trucks slide like on ice on wet roads. No text and drive..I'm a dad sorry

Get it in tip top shape first (new headlight assembly's included), then save your daubloons.

Lurk on here in the meantime

Oh the rain is a killer haha. And I never text and drive, I enjoy driving more than texting. I had the headlights before, but I got into an accident and they were ruined.

I'm working on that right now. I need a timing belt, an airbox, and a couple sensors, and I'm good to go. I just got a new job paying $17 an hour plus tips, so I should be on the way to LT hopefully in like 3-4 months.

Do have an idea how much your planned LT setup will cost? I hate to burst your bubble, but it's probably going to take a while to save up for something like this. Even with a basic 2wd kit, coilovers, bumps, limit straps, steering upgrades, leafs, bypasses, and other stuff to make it happen, you're probably looking at a minimum of 10k. And that's a very low estimate.

BTF offroad has a kit that has boxed upper and lower control arms with Energy poly bushings, tie rod extensions, extended steel braided brake lines, spindle to upper uniball adapters, and custom coilover top brackets. And adjustable upper arms equipped with FK heims available as an option. It's $3300 for that, plus the cost of kings, and the bumps and straps. I was also looking at the Total Chaos kit, but I think BTF is better for me. Eventually, leafs, steering, etc. but I just want to be in possession of the LT first, to see everything else that I need.

So that's 5-6 grand, then tires, need fiberglass fenders, rear should not be dismissed at all, plus a litany of other little things. 8-10 grand is probably ball park if you do everything yourself. And then you'll never be done lol.

Btw, hope you have a truck besides what's in your pic because that's a 5lug

Aren't prerunners all 6 lug? If not, then good point. I didn't even notice you're profile pic, but there is very little aftermarket support for the 5 lugs. This would end up being a very custom project.

Awesome man and I hope everything works out in your come to be vision is what ya want.

Don't let these people on here beat ya down man. Some just have to much money they dont know what to do with and they belittle people that work hard for there stuff.
Not to say they didn't but if they did I'd bet they would be a lot more open minded.

No for your build. I would do more research....a lot of research!! Find stuff you like on other people's builds and write them down. Set a goal and buy and cry once!!
One mod at a time if that's what it takes!!

Good luck Nate with your build!!

Thanks Bryan! I started this thread sort of as a pre-build thread, just so people could recommend stuff to help me build my list, and then hopefully bring them joy from knowing they helped turn the truck into what it will be! I get 100% where you're coming from bout people beating me down, and I don't let it get to me haha. I try to keep an open mind aswell, and understand what others say too. thanks for the support, and the luck!

I went with the clear corners and new headlights on my 99 years ago. Still think that little bit made it look like a brand new truck. And all from Amazon and rockauto - wasn't too pricy. Anzo brand if memory serves. There are different versions of the corners light depending on the trim/model of the truck so not surprising that the ebay lights didn't fit - make sure you're checking the fit guide for prerunner specific lights.
From when the lights were new....

Do your Amazon/EBay headlight assemblies have good cut offs?

Im a huge fan of crashnburn’s headlight knowledge drop and will be doing the headlight upgrade. But until I have the cash to drop on OEM assemblies I was thinking about just going the route of Amazon for assemblies.

But fear the scattered light/poor cut off potential.

Which is what I’m facing with the awful assemblies the previous owner out on the truck…so it can’t be worse id imagine.

I'm sure crash's lights would be better and not a fair comparison but I will say that going from the original stock lenses to the ones I got was a huge improvement. You can only expect so much from halogen bulbs. The housings have gotten a little hazy over the years but at 15 years old they still look better than the stock lenses did at 9 years old
