Except these guys believe it or not are heavily supported by advertising from car manufacturers!
A couple of yrs back -- the Honda CRV's had a "rough idle problem. (2015s) I almost bought one. Honda denied the issue for months -till 9 months or so later. Many of the complaints about this "issue" "accidently" disappeared from some of these websites. Some of my post included in these disappearances.
Moral of this --it is hard to trust your source of info if said source is supported by the producer you are complaining about!

I used Edmunds and KBB when I was looking for the best deal on a truck. each site lets you get quotes from any dealer you want. After requesting quotes from a few local dealers who didn't want to play, I got a call from a dealer 85 miles away and after I refined my list of requirements, he quoted me a price on a truck that was $1200 under any of the 6 or 7 dealers near me. Needless to say I bought from him. $30,096 OTD.

Why would anyone trade in a vehicle?

That's where the consumer gets the smallest return and the stealer (not a typo) makes the largest profit.

Correct --both are good but not all dealers subscribe to their linking services. Then that "truecar" thing if you can't beat what they throw at you --then you can't call yourself a "negotiator" --they were pathetic

I'm sorry to inform you that while it appears you got a good deal, the dealer got a good deal instead.

Yes, perhaps the dealer gave you a bit more than what they said your vehicle was worth. You may have been able to sell it for a higher price privately.

Even if that was a wash, you paid the sticker price which means the dealer still sold the vehicle for at least $2000 more than what he paid, plus the dealer holdback which on Toyota is around 2% of the vehicle price, and any other dealer incentives, minus the $1500 more that they gave you for the vehicle that they will sell for $3000 more than what they paid. This is why it is called a stealership.

At least in Pennsylvania you pay tax only on the total difference in value for a trade. Dealers will shell game you on this and say they are offering "more" on the trade but make no mistake, it's just the tax savings.

I'll throw all my cards on the table here:

"Total Taxes" is the PA 6% sales Tax. If I were buying cash, that would be roughly 1,300. The dealer will (and did) tell me it was just like getting 21,200 for my trade. That may be true, but I feel it's slightly dishonest to do a little phrasing game around what is actually being paid for the trade.

Oh, by the way, NADA value for my WRX?

I almost got Clean Retail NADA value. Oh, and I sold the dealer guy some of the spare parts later for about $600.

The icing on the cake: I saw the WRX on the lot for sale a few weeks later. Asking price? $26,000

I didn't pay that much for it new.:D

It would help if people stop buying trucks at msrp sticker prices, it makes it harder to negotiate a good deal if the dealer knows he can sell to the next idiot at sticker price.
Why you think the 2017 Tacoma went up 1,200 or more than 2016? And the only difference is power rear window.

I don't see the point in leaving out the dealer fee. That's completely negotiable AFAIK. I usually qualify my response to:

    I paid $29,900 for a DCSB SR5 V6 4X4 with Tow only before TT&L.
