No, we can use modern stand-alone ECUs and separate the body and engine control, @MESO has found his way of doing it and I will do mine very similar I am sure. He mentioned it above.

I had a guy buy my Samuri, and swap in a VW turbo diesel and won the first 3 truck shows he entered. He got it done in 8 months.

Do it OP! The great thing about the 3rd gen Taco is that the engine compartment is super big that you can fit any engine!

I agree. I think it might be an ad paid for by Diesel Toys in some way. They guy got the conversion for free, did a TFL show about it, then sold he truck because the conversion actually sucks.

I dunno. I don’t trust anything on YouTube anymore. Probably safer to assume it’s an ad. Especially if TFL is involved.

300 miles and like 2 years later he did that too. Just didnt make sense, there had to be some big issue he just couldnt get past for him to go and do something like that.

When it doesn’t make sense, you are being advertised to. If you had that kinda money, you wouldn’t chose to modify an SR5.

While not this forums preferred swap, I think people should be looking at EV swaps as well as gas/diesel swaps.

I remember EV swaps were all the rage a few years ago.

Thats the other thing that didnt make sense. Spends 30k to diesel swap the a sr5, with that money he should of opted for a trd trim for a few thousand more.

I wonder if he sold the 3.5 and transmission to recoup some of the diesel
Cost. I think the idea is great except for the cost to do the swap

I will be modifying an SR5. Why would you go with any other platform? Pay an extra 5k just for stuff that won't be used anyways? You won't get crawl control to work with the brakes and long travel that I'll have, I don't want to deal with the collision avoidance stuff, so what then? Heated seats? I'm replacing mine with PRP seats anyways. I have the same screen, same power everything else, no other differences that I know of but a rear electric window, which I don't care to have either. The SR5 really is the easiest and best platform to start a crazy build on.

might be easier just to do Tesla motor swap.. and you would get more power.

I wouldn't say easier at all. There are other EV components/suppliers who I would go with. The tesla control system is pretty complex as it is. Plus electric won't work for my application, This truck will need much further range down in Mexico and when we go up to Alaska. Although it may occasionally be thrown in a toy hauler, it will be drivable as well.

Some fun ideas being thrown here. Always loved a good swap and I wish you luck. Per my own opinion, as this is the internet after all, I don't see it being worth the hassle in a newer truck when you could have just bought a different truck to suit your needs and it would still have a warranty. What's the budget for this thing? Time frame?

What would be the point in that? At least go with a 2.7L. it has truck engine specs.
