This wasn't on his property and regardless, if someone breaks into your house and steals your shit your can't chase them out the front door and shoot them. Stand your ground simply means you don't have to retreat, Florida expands that to public places. When the 911 operator told Zimmerman not to follow, and he ignored, he lost the ability to claim stand your ground.

If you read the actual report you can see it doesn't apply, Zimmerman's lawyer even says so.

well, i'd say if it's a private street (which i don't know, but let's suppose...), ..if it's a private street, gated community, ..yeah he's got a stake on that property as a homeowner there - so that's his property... what was trayvon doing in a gated community that had suffered recent burglaries (gated communities aren't generally "thoroughfares" accessible by casual commuters), ...just playing devils advocate here, ..you know to maybe put some scrutiny on the trespasser for once ;)

there's no "duty" to obey what a 911 operator says,... 911 operator isn't "on the scene"... ins't an LEO... so, that's mute... zimmerman has a right to walk that same path as trayvon, hell it's zimmerman's community... i don't see what the crime is in investigating suspcious activity on one's property/community, especially when you are the watchman..

Assuming his nose was broken, where's the blood on his shirt? If he was on the ground on his back, why don't his clothes appear dirty? Where's the cuts on the back of his head? His head doesn't look like it was "repeatedly slammed into the ground", cared for or not.

I've broken my nose before. There was plenty of blood on my shirt. I've also been tackled to the ground before. My clothes were filthy.

exactly... but, the point was to jump the shark for (what is perceived as) social justice, and lynch the "white-hispanic" (just using the LSM's "adjusted terminology here) w/out a fair trial... just curious where the grownups are in (gasp) journalism and the so-called black community leadership...

Have you read the report at all? His parent, Trayvon, lived in the community. And you can't pursue, period. Were talking law, not opinion. read the law, you can not pursue someone and shoot them.

don't know... that level of detail hasn't been revealed - at least not that i've caught wind of yet... maybe he was cleaned up, ..there could be a stain on the shirt, IDK, i mean what can you really see w/ that low resolution and poor camera angle?... he could have hunched over at the scene and let it drip on the ground??... i mean, let's consume ALL the facts before throwing someone to the angry mob..

Scusee me sir. It's doesnt boil down to pursuing someone and shooting them. Phrasing it like that isn't exactly correct. Let's be real heree.

LOL yes it does. Back to the broke into my house and took my shit argument. If you pursue the person out of your house, get into a fight with them and then shoot them you can not claim the stand your ground law. The moment you chase or follow someone you give up your right to stand your ground. Zimmerman is recorded on the 911 tape saying "Im following him"

Fmr Governor Bush: "This law does not apply to this particular circumstance. Stand your ground means stand your ground. It doesn't mean chase after somebody who's turned their back."

No, no it doesn't. He didn't just pursue him and shoot him... You're missing a pretty chunk of the story. The whole altercation part. Granted, yes he pursued him. Yes the kid ended up shot. But it wasn't unprovoked. The following might have been. The bullet was not... ( That's what I believe at least ) Once again, solid facts would really help here...

    To clarify.

    Zimmerman can claim self defense

Zimmerman can not claim the stand your ground law

    The two are very different.

The cops didn't arrest him because to them it looked like self defense. I'm choosing to make a point because ignorant people keep talking about the stand your ground law which doesn't apply here. Read the report. The police never mention stand your ground. It was something the media grasped onto because the law in general the way Florida applies it is iffy and lots of people don't like it.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool double standard we live with here in the United States.

..in a roundabout way, ..i agree w/ this assessment.. although i'm still cautious about "pursue", ...especially if zimmerman never left the boundaries of "the community"... curious if we know more about the community - how big, ..is it private street, etc..

Again, I know I'm riding you but the circumstances of the property don't matter lol.

I'm trying to make this simple.

If I walk up to you and deck you in the face, maybe kick you a couple times, and I tell you I'm going to kill you. The moment I turn to walk away or run you can not pursue me and shoot me. It doesn't matter where this happens. Your front yard, your driveway, the moment you chase or follow me you can't claim stand your ground.

If you chase me and catch me, and we fight and I get the upper hand and start slamming your head into the ground ... sure, shoot me and claim self defense. Not stand your ground.

Now, in reality it would be hard to tell if you followed me. Unfortunately for Zimmerman he's on tape saying "Im following him" and he's told not to.
