I want to see all the home built campers out there. 1st, 2nd or 3rd Gen. Not many campers on the market for a short-bed, manual, TRD.

I started building mine about 10 years ago. Weighs about 750lbs and is rock solid. I can run down the road at 75mph with no issues (well besides the extra weight). Added Firestone Air Bags to the rear and usually have them about 25lbs when loaded with the camper.

I take the camper out 10-15 times a year either with the Boy Scouts, start of a backpacking trip or just relaxing at a state park or state forest. I am continually upgrading the camper. Currently it has a heater (Buddy heater), stove, 2 beds (yes a top bunk) and plenty of storage areas. Storage areas are under the bed and over the cab. Usually my backpack and such goes above the cab. The top bunk is for a smaller person (usually one of my kids) and extends over the cab and half-way over the other bed. The top bunk is tight but works well.

I added a slide a few years back so I could sleep without my feet touching the sides. Started with pressure treated but have been slowly switching over to redwood and cedar. The images on the side are 1/4" maple cut out and spray painted black then air stapled to the sides.

The camper comes on and off the trucking using a home built rack I created inside of a "blimp" hanger next to our 33' RV (only way the wife goes). Takes about 10 minutes to put on and off. Pictures below.

    Enjoy!!

    that thing is cool!

I saw a guy on the beach one time in a full size Dodge with a customized garden shed mounted up for sleeping. Yours look much more cleaner!

That is awesome! Looks like a giant birdhouse. How difficult was it to make the area around the slide-out weatherproof?

 Does the Outback have the 2.5 or the 3.6? Where did you get your aluminum?

The Outback had the 2.5L. Towed the camper at 65mph no problem and still averaged 23mpg. I haven't towed the camper long distance with the Tacoma yet. I don't remember the online source for the aluminum, however my dad found another source that was cheaper, even for colored panels. I will bug him for his source.

Wasn't to hard to make the slide waterproof. The overhang from the roof helps but the slide out is basically a U shape where one side of the U is in the camper and the outside is sealed. Check out the picture with the backpack.

Love the campers being posted. Not sure about the tent on the plywood. Seems to many things can go wrong and you end up on the ground

Thanks for your concern, but there's no way the tent or plywood will ever move. The plywood is attached via "L brackets" to the bed mounting tracks and when the tent is set up, it is secured to the plywood thru the stake eyelets with small "U bolts".
