Interesting on the tint, I didn't get that option when I bought mine. Do you have a Softop or Bestop?

I thought there was just clear, and tinted. When I ordered mine I asked to switch my clear for tinted and they upcharged me. They never asked me which tint I wanted :notsure:

    Softopper that is

I don't really see how that would matter. If you go on the site now and act like your buying another, is there an add on accessory for a tinted rear window?

When I bought mine, I added the mesh Rear screen and then sent an email to have the clear rear window it comes with upgraded to tinted.

I added the mesh as well but there is no tint option available at least through the website interface.

Installed my new Softopper on Father's Day! I painted all of the aluminum black on Saturday. I am pretty happy with how the project turned out.

    Aluminum prep:
    • Sanded with 400 grit
    • Acetone bath
    • Self Etching primer
    • Light sand and dry wipe down
    • Truck Bed-liner (Black)
    • Hard Coat Enamel Matte (Black)
Self designed modular bed box/sleeping platform:
    • 30% Vinegar/0000 Steel Wool (14 day cure in a jar aging solution)
    • Sanded with 400 grit
    • 10 Black Teabag in two cups of water. Steeped for 10 minutes and applied to wood
    • Applied the aging solution and finished off with satin Krylon clear coat spray

Nice work! Love the black bars. Looks so much better when you roll the sides up.

I LOVE my softopper! But I have to agree I wonder why they didn't provide the support bars black from the get go? I am sure it is a cost thing, and really I guess you don't see the bars too much as I don't have my sides rolled up all that much unless I am camping.....but the black bars blend in very nice with the bed of the truck.

    Nice job

Sorry for the delayed response. I have a Softopper. By default, they may only offer clear or tinted. When I spoke with them though, I mentioned that I had 5% tint on my truck, and they said they could match it. They just had to put an additional layer of tint on the vinyl. Cost me $10 IIRC.

Oh and here's the obligatory pic of my topper. It's filthy right now, so I can't really grab a good pic of the rear tint.

Will a 3rd gen Softopper fit a 2nd gen well?

Friend has a 2nd gen and is wants a hard top, but is thinking of getting a soft topper for a trip soon. Doesn't have the time to get a hard top installed. So once she's done she'll sell it to me. I have a 3rd gen. Both of us have a long bed. I have AC she has a double cab. I know softopper changed their tops a bit for the third gen, but wasn't sure how much.

For one trip I would think it will be fine.
