I'm not in the market for a prefabbed kayak rack to go over the Softopper. I just need some specific specs, or get my hands on with a Gen 3 Softopper to make notes from, and then I plan to fabricate my own rack. I have MIG, TIG, Plasma, air, air tools, horizontal band saw, two different tube benders and probably 40 feet or more 1.5" x .095 DOM, and years of fabrication experience behind me, all ready to build my rack to work with the Softopper.

Just need to get my hands on the dang Softopper.

Wish i had more experience and tools. My rack I built came out ok but always room for improvement. Allpro has a weld it yourself version. But since you already have the metal... Best bet would be to just buy one and install it. Measurements will be different from other setups since they have all the adjustments on the frame itself.

Yeah, my rack won't cost me much at all, if anything. I have other metal material laying around from other projects as well for the other bits and pieces needed along the way. Things like nutz and bolts will be most of my overall costs. I can create pretty much anything I can dream up as long as my tools have the capacity to make it happen. And what limitations my tools have, I have a buddy with even more fab tools. And he has friends that own powder coating businesses that he can slide my work in sideways.

Originally I switched back to my tonneau for winter, but I missed the softopper too much.

I set up a heater inside it for a while to help de-wrinkle it in the cold.

    Time for an adventure!

I’ve yet to do it, but I plan to. As other have pointed out, I can already see it’s not going to be the most comfortable, especially with a short bed. Even for me that I’m 5’7, I’d either have to sleep sideways, or in the fetal position that’s if I plan to close the tailgate.

not quite the same, but I've slept in the back in a bed tent and air mattress. It was actually pretty comfortable. Only issue I see with softopper is head room.

Ive spent many nights in the bed under the softopper .... Its why i bought it... sometimes in a cot, which is comfy but loses headroom... and sometimes on my NeoAir which was also comfy and spacious... Just make sure you seem seal it and youll be fine...

For those of you with short beds or long legs you should look into the extension they sell at softopper...
