All you’ll be making is two tiny holes. IMO the amount of water that will possibly enter will be negligible and not a big deal. The topper will leak more in other places.

But if you really wanna seal it, just put a dab of silicone on the back.

This is true. I have a tendency to overdo and overthink things.

Its pretty much diy on a softopper. I'm using

Partsam 15" Smoke/Red 11 LED Waterproof Car Trailer Truck Stop Turn Tail Brake Light Bar Identification Light, Thin Line Smoked Red led strip light ID Bar

Went back and forth on this one or a red one. I went with the smoke version.

I'll tap into the driver's side tail but I'll be using a quick disconnect if I want to fold or remove the topper

Good chance I'm even worse at electrical/wiring than you are. Haha.

I'll try to remember to post some pics this weekend

Not much of a diy, but here ya go. Found some time today, so chanced it in the 100° degree weather in az.

Route the wire to the tailight. There's a hole underneath the bed cap. Fish it through. No pics, but there's a blue and white wire in the middle plug, tap these wires. Blue wire is power. White wire is ground....if I remember right.

I used a waterproof quick disconnect. This way I can still easily fold the topper or remove the topper.
    20190711_140352.jpg

And if I did want to remove or fold the topper I didn't want the plugs to be exposed. So i cut up another connector and used the Male and female connectors as dummy plugs. Filled the holes with epoxy.

Route wires to the brake light. I followed the strap, to the frame, and to the light. You can see in the first pic.

That really does! Do you happen to have a pic or how you spliced into taillight?

No pic unfortunately. But I used positaps. [IMG]

I've read good reviews on these wire taps. I also have the meso stage 1 tails. So my wiring harness will prob look a little different than yours. Let me know if you have any questions.
