I drive around town quite a bit with the sides rolled up. I've driven on the freeway at most 70 mph. No major road trips though. I'm sure it would be fine, I just wouldn't want it fly off if theres high winds

I did buy 2 extra rail clamps. Maybe that's why I feel more confident.

Finally joined the club. Really stoked on the topper so far! I added the third brake light (with quick disconnect), put magnets in the rear flap to keep it on the tailgate and built a storage shelf that sits over the front of the bed inside. 93664CF5-305F-4339-8236-069BA763BE27.jpg6D0D39AD-8AFA-4D9E-A955-67F10520DC7E.jpg

I have two extra clamps also.

I dont worry so much about the frame, more I worry about the canvas catching a big gust of wind and catching the like a parachute.

I did some driving with the rear window rolled up on the highway the other day with no issues. My only concern was the rear bar sliding out of the rear window but it didn't budge. I may use some hose claims to hold it in place like someone else had done in this thread.

I've had mine like this for months at a time. No issues. In fact it provides better visibility out back and I don't feel the wind as much.

Interesting. Was considering getting a Softopper to use in the winter. Wanted something to keep my tools dry that I could easily push forward and transport my snowmobile at least once a week. Bad idea?

Depends if the truck lives in an attached garage. Usually those don't get below 40*. Not a big deal to collapse it at those temps.

For what it's worth, make sure you get the travel boot. The thing will blow around crazy without it when folded forward without the cover boot thing. Especially at xway speeds.

Definitely be below zero when i'm folding it up. I guess I could always replace the plastic panel with black canvas if tears. Approximately how long does it take to fold up and attach the boot?

7-15 minutes top, if the ST is playable at all.

Softopper is a great solution. Army life, Army Housing, No Garage, me not wanting to put it back on in bitchin cold conditions. Don't read too much into it or let my laziness influence your decision to get a Softopper.

Not really. you can get it collapsed, but you will never get it resnapped until above freezing.

I was contemplating selling my Softopper for a moment. However, after reading this thread again and realizing how heavy a actually camper shell is I don’t think I’ll be selling mine anymore lol Besides it’s the most unique looking addition to any Tacoma.

The price and weight of a fiberglass cap was a big drawback for me, thats one of many reasons I went with a soft top.

Looks good, I'm with you on that... I always wanted some form of topper, the camper shells were too pricey and heavy. I didn't want to load up my DD with weight. Honestly at first I thought Softopper's looked horrid. Completely hated them, they slowly grew on me and now I freaking love the look and functionality to boot.

Hi all. This is for sale local. I’m just going to begin researching these. It appears a good deal. I have a couple questions maybe you guys can help me with-

What are the loops accross the top? Can the rear window be replaced with a screen?

    Thank You

For rolling up the sides, there are straps on the inside that go around the rolled up sides to keep them in place.
