Finally got some proper pics of the new softopper rack from mobtown I posted about weeks ago.

I'd recommend cleaning and sealing the top before it's "needed." It will keep the topper in much better shape. If you let it get "bad enough" it's more of a restoration then a cleaning. I barely got mine in time, and I thought mine still looked good.

This is simply false! We have sold 100s of racks over the years. I apologize if I missed your emails but this is not how we work! I will say we are not on here often and try to funnel all inquiries through the website as it is just impossible for us to keep up with all the message and pms from our social media accounts. Sometimes 100s a day.
If you email us we will reply, if we don’t reply something went wrong and we didn’t receive your email or you didn’t receive my reply.

Maybe things have changed but I got one email reply followed by silence when I tried to buy one fall 2017.

Nice Rack lol! Are you able to fold down the Softopper with the bed rack in place?

No. Because of the way the Softopper folds, the rack would have to be about a foot (maybe more) higher. You couldl remove the crossbars and fold it up. Or you can pop the ST of it's pivoting pins and it will drop into the bed. Then you can remove it and fold it up and probably reinstall it in the folded position.

EDIT: As you can see here, the green line is the main hoop of the ST as it folds. It is like 2 feet over the cab. The rack would have to be ridiculously high.

Thanks to all for a great thread. Many great ideas in here. Bought mine used about 6 months ago and love it. Been on many long trips, spent many nights in it and have had zero issues.

I am thinking of several mods, though, including cutting windows in the outer fabric on the sides and sewing mesh panels on the inside for the option of being able to have screened side windows---my one gripe with with current design, especially on warm summer nights. We'll see if I get around to it this year.

I'd love to be able to strap the longboards down directly on top of the ST. I've looked into many racks, both over the camper racks and cab racks. I just don't have enough use for them at this time. The ST frame is more than sturdy enough for a surfboard or three. Any ideas?

From a northern coast surf trip last summer:

Dude, with the factory rack I can get all my boards on the roof including this 12 foot beast. C191FD42-DCE9-4A9C-A740-F4F5C7CADC28.jpg

I did this exact same thing - mostly so i could still store things and secure them by locking the tailgate

Yeah, I have considered a minimalist cab rack like the oem. That will probably be the route I take if I can't find a reliable (and safe) way to strap them to the ST. I really don't mind having the logs stick out the back, but it does limit how much stuff I can store in the bed and how it is arranged. Minor inconvenience but an inconvenience nonetheless, especially on long road surf trips.

Sweet pic by the way. Is that central OR?

Could someone with a third gen take an inside height measurement for me? From the top of a bed floor rib to the bottom of the lowest support bar in the middleish of the bed. I see this question was asked once before but was never answered. Thanks!

What do you mean strap them to the softopper? I only strap to the roof rack crossbars. It can handle big boards and kayaks just fine as seen in this pic. EC73216C-4448-4E94-813B-3B5CE7F04003.jpg

Just installed my softtopper this past weekend, love it. I currently run a tailgate pad for my bike. Is there a way to still close the rear flap to the shuttle pad? Has anyone been able to come up with a creative way to make that flap close with the soft backing of the tailgate pad?

Are you talking about closing the softopper flap flat against the tailgate pad when there are no bikes loaded on it?

I measured 38-inches from bed floor mat to bottom of the middle ST support bar. My ST is set in the middle ring.

I mean simply laying the boards on top of the softopper and securing them using cam straps routed through D-rings in the bed. It would probably require me to roll up the side panels of the topper, as in "Safari mode". I haven't tested it yet, and it may not be safe--I'm just spit-balling. I don't currently have a rack over the cab, but that may be the my only option. I have an access cab so cab rack options are slightly more limited.
