My first Gen is officially a soft taco now... Truck top 1.jpg Gap side.jpg

I have not seam sealed it yet since we are expecting rain the next few days and I am going to have to let it cure outside. Put it on just to start getting it to stretch a bit and to see how well it does without the seam sealer. Pretty happy overall, though I might have it a bit to loose and I do not like the massive gap from between the cab and the topper. In the future I might pull it off and move the rails a bit forward to close that gap but otherwise I think it came out well. Now to spend the next few days building the bed out to live in... :D

I have not seen too many 1st Gen Regular cabs with the softtopper so hope yall enjoy:cheers:

For those with a bestop ver 1 or ver 2. How easy/long does it take to fold or remove the topper?

    Just curious.

Good ol lost in the woods. Did my OSUT there back in 07 during the ice storms, got stuck out on one of our FTXs in pup tents since we could not get the cattle trucks down to the TA nor march out due to TRADOC BS. Good times. LOL Hopefully we can link up sometime for sure, I am new to the taco life and still learning, plus there are surprisingly not too many Tacomas down here in Springfield, least of all 1st gens. Would definetly like to get more involved in the community.

When I used magnets it scratched up my tailgate a little. I had a cloth towel between the paint and the magnets. I put a strip of black vinyl down on mine to help prevent that, but then when my girlfriend leaned against the topper magnets, I thought she was going to sent the tailgate. That’s when I tried going to the strip magnets, which weren’t strong enough. Now I just tuck the flap behind the tailgate now

Cant remember if it war the hook or loop side of the velcro, but I put velcro on one side of magnetic tape that goes almost the full length of thr tailgate to keep the rear window from flapping. Also did a strip of clear vinyl along the top of the tailgate. Has worked for me for almost a year now.

when I did my research I found the 2nd gen sits real high on a second gen. The 3rd gen has taller bedside which would make it sit even higher over the cab. I wanted a lower profile look so I went with a 3rd gen on my second gen

I bought a used Tan Softopper that was supposed to be for a 2nd Gen Tacoma and it was higher than the roof line. I bought a new one and it was roof height and looked better. 1st pic is the old and 2nd pic is the newer one.

I cant prove it and its just a hunch but I think they shortened the height on 2nd gen models when the 3rd gen came out. I was worried my softopper would sit above my roof line so I was looking to buy a 3rd gen topper so it sat below the cab line.
I ultimately rolled the dice and bought new for a 2nd gen and it sat at the same height as the roof line. So I am led to believe they changed the height at some point.

Yeah, if you buy new, all the new ones are the same. If you buy an older version second hand, you'll want to know if it was for a 2nd or 3rd gen.

I bought used, and made sure it was a "3rd gen" here's how it sits on my 2nd gen

i personally think the UpTop rack is more along the line of the prinsu

the front runner sits a good bit taller than both the Uptop and Prinsu

i like the front runner the most myself, all though it has the highest profile I believe it is the strongest and has the greater load capacity
