I have used this. It’s pretty much what comes with the rails.

There was a discount code for 20 percent off last month, the stimulus check arrived just in time

took a little bit longer than an hour only because i adjusted the rails to get it a bit closer to the cab. My local Leer dealer wanted about 2500 for a hard shell. I mainly use my truck to drive my dogs and family on the beach so this was more practical.

I just found a ST on FB for $600, I have a quicksand and was originally looking for a tan one. This one is gray, I have seen a few pictures but wanted to see if anyone has a few photos of a QS with the Gray ST?

Really comes down to personal preference and how it ties in with your wheels and other bolt-ons. I have a silver Taco and went tan, which may seem odd but I have bronze wheels and the topper and FN wheels paired well (IMO):

And by happenstance, my ARB awning and shelter match it, too:

I agree. I like the way it looks and I like the way the QS looks with the tan ST, however I haven't found a used one yet and this happens to be the first used one I have found just happens to be gray. Not sure if I just order a new on or buy up this used gray one.

grey looks like a black one that’s really faded. Buy new, it’s not that much more money.

I've got a local fabricator lined up to make a rack to go over my Softopper for mounting my RTT and awning. My truck came with the OEM tonneau cover so my bedrail caps are cut and I've got these really convenient threaded holes exposed. Any reason not to attach the rack where the old tonneau mounts were? It'd be nice to save space on the cargo rails.

I would mount to cargo rails. They mount in 5-6 different locations to the bed and connecting the rack to that will disperse the load over the whole side. Putting it right in those threaded holes will cause too much stress there. Those holes simply aren't designed for the forces of a bed rack.

That was kinda what I was thinking, but the cargo rails appear to be mounted with the same size fasteners. But I'm no engineer.

They are, the difference is just the load being spread out over a larger area in a more even fashion. These bedsides aren't the strongest so you have to take every precaution you can when mounting heavy things like racks.

This ^, reason exactly, spreading the load across as many mount points as you can brings the stress on each mount point down quite a bit. try ripping up a board with 1 nail vs 10 nails equally spread out. When I built my removable rack for over my softopper I put 4 t-bolt mounting points on each rail side. with my rtt mounted I can grab the rack and push/pull back and forth and the entire truck will shake back and forth but the rack is planted to the bedsides.
