I did place the mounting clamps within the spec distances but i will fiddle with those distances again and the 3-hole locations on the plate incase that does have an affect in the plate. Thank you.

All these new topper pics inspired me to finally properly clean mine with a cleaner and protectant. Had it for over seven years and prior to yesterday, only rinsed it with a pressure washer. It’s seen over 100k miles and still going strong.

After seeing this photo im pretty sure Softopper sent me a 3rd Gen instead of a 2nd Gen. My brackets are the same way, and it is definitely not Cab Height. Its been two weeks already, i guess too late to say something?

I prefer the 3rd gen over the 2nd, personally. I liked how it tucks in behind the cab and looks more slick than the 2nd gens imo.

I should have taken a 'before' pic. I didn't anticipate it cleaning up like it did.

Hey Fellas, has anyone here done a grey softopper on 3rd gen MGM? Debating between grey and black but want to see if the greys would clash too much

A little info a got today directly from softopper that I'm not sure you guys are aware of or not, so thought I'd pass it along for those of you buying used softoppers for your 1st and 2nd gen DCSB (double cab short bed) Tacomas:

1st gen and 2nd gen softoppers are different in two ways:
1)the clamps: first gens use a more standard clamp, second gens use the utility clamps.
2)1st gen softoppers are a little over 2" taller than 2nd gen softoppers.

Hope that's helpful to someone, and/or not beating a dead horse... But for me it explains why my craigslist purchase is a bit short on my truck. I'm still happy with the purchase... And for 2nd genners who want an extra tall softop and 1st genners who want an extra short softopper, there's your solution

Got a chance to add third brake light for my softopper. Shoutout to @Puppypunter for the brake tap, made it super easy without splicing.

Used these magnets instead of the adhesive strips. Working well so far.

Just got back from a weekend in the mountains, slept in my softopper, flipped it down for shuttle duties. Worth noting that the 5 lugger parked next to it in a few photos is my old truck of 8 years, one of my buddies bought it from mePXL_20210501_013814044.jpg PXL_20210501_144034319.jpg PXL_20210501_175903566.MP.jpg

For the record, Cali-raised bedside MOLLE panels are probably technically incompatible with a soft topper. The hinge/joint in the center of the frame is too close to the bedside. It was a pain, but I made the panels fit and can still actuate the hinge to deploy or stow the topper. This comes at the cost of cosmetic damage as the hinge will scrape against the panels. The alternative was to sell these rather pricy panels.

Or maybe I did something wrong. The soft topper side rails could be too far from the bedside, bringing the hinge closer.

I would just like to say that it is a bitch and half to slide new tnuts in when you have the clamps to move first.

Oh interesting, was wondering about this. Do the magnets start messing with the paint?

I just checked my tailgate after about 2 years of having a softopper its starting to wear the paint where it rubs. Ordering vinyl strip today. Yikes
